Samsung’s Tizen Store Goes Global

Recommended Posts

Unless you live in India or Bangladesh, you can’t actually get your hands on a smartphone running Tizen, Samsung Electronics Co.’s homegrown alternative to the Android mobile operating system.

But starting this week, Samsung is throwing the doors of the Tizen app store open to most countries around the world.

The unusual worldwide launch of the Tizen Store suggests that the South Korean company has broader ambitions beyond India and Bangladesh, where the first Tizen phone has shown some initial signs of traction, according to people familiar with the matter.

That handset, a basic offering called the Samsung Z1, has been on sale since January for less than $100, and is aimed at users who may not even have a bank account.

But from the get-go, Samsung has been eyeing Tizen smartphone launches in other countries across Asia, part of a broader effort to help the fledgling operating system gain momentum.

Samsung has already released six smartwatches, four of them powered by Tizen. Earlier this year, Samsung’s co-chief executive B.K. Yoon said in an interview that every connected television manufactured by Samsung would run Tizen.

On Wednesday, Samsung will host its first in-person event since 2020 to reveal the Galaxy S23 series, which has been the subject of countless leaks in recent weeks. As per usual, we know virtually everything there is to know about the phone, but whether or not you’ve been avoiding the steady stream of leaks, you might want to tune in to see everything the company has to offer at Galaxy Unpacked today.
The live stream for the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked February 2023 event begins at 10 a.m. PT/ 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, February 1st. We have embedded the YouTube video below, so you can watch along live from this page once the event begins.

As noted above, leaks have spoiled a majority of the surprises Samsung had in store for today’s event. The flagship lineup this year consists of the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The designs of all three new models look similar to their predecessors, although the camera island is no longer present on the S23 or S23 Plus. Instead, every model has adopted the look of the S22 Ultra, which featured rear lenses protruding directly from the back panel.
When it comes to specifications, we expect the Galaxy S23 phones to feature Dynamic AMOLED displays with up to 120Hz refresh rates, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of internal storage.
Beyond the new flagship phones, Samsung might reveal another device or two at the Unpacked event. Based on Samsung’s reservation website, we should also see the new line of Galaxy Book laptops. According to MySmartPrice, the lineup will consist of the Galaxy Book 3, Galaxy Book 3 360, Galaxy Book 3 Pro, Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360, and Galaxy Book 3 Ultra.
Watch along live above when the event begins at 10 a.m. PT/ 1 p.m. ET today.

The future of Samsung’s foldable phones is finally here. On Wednesday, August 10th at 6:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. ET, Samsung will host its latest Galaxy Unpacked event to reveal the new Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and more. Unsurprisingly, leaks have already spoiled nearly everything there is to know about the new phones, but perhaps Samsung will have some surprises in store. You can watch along live to find out below.
Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2022 live stream
For months, Samsung has been hyping up its next-generation foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 should be the highlights of this Unpacked, as Samsung continues to iterate on the design while improving performance on both devices.
According to leaks, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will feature a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display as well as a 6.2-inch cover display. Inside the device are the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, 12GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and a 4,400 mAh battery. The rear triple camera array will contain 50 MP, 12 MP ultrawide, and 10 MP telephoto lenses.
Samsung should also announce the Galaxy Z Flip 4 at the August event. Leaks point to a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and a 1.9-inch cover screen. Plus, the flip phone will have a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 CPU, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,700 mAh battery. On the back of the phone are a 12 MP wide angle lens and a 12 MP ultra-wide angle lens. The Z Flip 4 will also feature a 10 MP front-facing camera when you flip it open.
      Other announcements
In addition to new phones, Samsung will also reveal a new wearable device this Wednesday. We expect to see the Galaxy Watch 5 at its August Galaxy Unpacked. Rumors suggest that it will come in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm. There will also be a slightly larger Galaxy Watch 5 Pro with a rotating bezel. Both models will support faster charging speeds.
Finally, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro headphones should debut at the event today. These next-gen premium earbuds from Samsung will feature active noise cancellation, three microphones IPX7 water resistance, Bluetooth 5.3 support, and more.
Tune in at 6:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. ET to watch the Galaxy Unpacked live stream.

I have been using Sling TV for the $35 blue bundle here in the US. I tried FuboTV but dropped it because there wasn't enough to make up teh price difference from Sling TV. I have not tried Youtube TV, Hulu Live, or philo. I'm curiuous what you are using for live tv and how you like it as a Samsung TV Tizen app. Not throuh Roku, FireTV or Apple TV.
How do you like the app mostly, channel surfing, loading ,etc. There's a significant price difference between Sling, Philo, and the others.
