  8. Tizen Z3 Coming Soon

  9. A Samsung Tizen Z3 phone popped up this months at the FCC. Looks like Samsung is all in with Tizen, synching it with the G2 as well. We are bound to see more gadgets with Tizen loaded.
  10. According to a new report, Samsung's upcoming Tizen smartphone, the Z3, will be able to sync with the Samsung Gear S2, the Tizen-based round smartwatch that is currently making waves in the smartwatch market. Android stood at the core of Samsung's rise to dominance in the global smartphone market, and Google's mobile OS continues to power a vast Samsung Galaxy family of smartphones. Despite what seems like the perfect love story, however, Samsung is doing its best to separate its future from Android by slowly adopting Tizen, an open-source OS that Samsung is developing with help from other companies such as Intel, Huawei, Vodafone, and Sprint. One segment where Samsung has aggressively pushed Tizen as an Android alternative are smartwatches. Out of the seven watches that Samsung has launched so far, only one of them - the Samsung Galaxy Gear - came with Android Wear. The rest of them, including the recently-unveiled Gear S2, run Tizen Read more at http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-allegedly-working-on-a-Tizen-smartphone-that-syncs-with-the-Tizen-based-Gear-S2_id74080
  11. Aug 31st, 2015 Samsung today formally announced its Gear S2 smartwatch ahead of the IFA trade show in Berlin. The Korean gadget maker already teased its next-gen wearable during its Galaxy Note 5 Unpacked event in New York City earlier this month. But today, it revealed a few more information about the smartwatch, though pricing and availability are still unknown. http://mobile.pcmag.com/news/59439-samsung-gear-s2-smartwatch-revealed?origref=https:%2F%2Fnews.google.com%2F

  13. It's tempting to think of Tizen as an also-ran in the smartphone world next to powerhouses like Android and iOS, but that's not entirely true when Samsung has sold 1 million Z1 phones in India since January. In fact, there are now signs that the Korean firm is doubling down on its partly in-house platform: Reuters sources hear that Samsung is planning to release "several" more Tizen phones later this year at a range of prices. While there aren't more details yet, the move suggests that Samsung is confident that it can expand Tizen's audience relatively quickly. There's certainly a lot of pressure to do that. Samsung has been on less-than-friendly terms with Google because of its sometimes aggressive attempts to build an ecosystem on top of Android. The more Tizen phones Samsung sells, the more it reduces its dependence on someone else's platform for success -- it can promote its own services and stand out in a market where almost everyone else is relying on Google software. You probably won't be buying a flagship-class Tizen phone any time soon, but it's evident that Samsung is determined to avoid Bada's slow fade into obscurity. 14. New Tizen Phone!

  15. Samsung released its Z1 earlier in the year, making it their first Tizen smartphone. It has been a hit in an emerging market like India but has not fared so well in other regions. Based on that success, they have been working on a successor to the Samsung Z1, the Samsung Z2. It has only been a few months since the first generation has been made available to the public but supposed photos have already leaked online. The Samsung Z2 Tizen is a budget smartphone aimed for hugr markets like India, China and Russia. With so many affordable phones going around offering mostly the same things, Samsung felt it had to come out with its own version to compete with the other leading brands. Previously leaked specs although not confirmed, say that the Z2 will have a display resolution of 540x960. In addition, it will also have 32-bit quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM.The Z2 will also be powered by a 2,000 mAh battery. 16. Unless you live in India or Bangladesh, you can’t actually get your hands on a smartphone running Tizen, Samsung Electronics Co.’s homegrown alternative to the Android mobile operating system. But starting this week, Samsung is throwing the doors of the Tizen app store open to most countries around the world. The unusual worldwide launch of the Tizen Store suggests that the South Korean company has broader ambitions beyond India and Bangladesh, where the first Tizen phone has shown some initial signs of traction, according to people familiar with the matter. That handset, a basic offering called the Samsung Z1, has been on sale since January for less than $100, and is aimed at users who may not even have a bank account. But from the get-go, Samsung has been eyeing Tizen smartphone launches in other countries across Asia, part of a broader effort to help the fledgling operating system gain momentum. Samsung has already released six smartwatches, four of them powered by Tizen. Earlier this year, Samsung’s co-chief executive B.K. Yoon said in an interview that every connected television manufactured by Samsung would run Tizen. Source: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/04/30/samsungs-tizen-store-goes-global/
  17. When Samsung unveiled its 2015 smart TV lineup at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, owners of Evolution Kit-compatible sets wondered if they, too, were in line for an upgrade to the new Tizen smart-TV platform. The South Korean giant was quick to reassure them, saying it would release a special hardware kit for this purpose sometime during the second quarter. Well, the wait is almost over. According to Tizenexperts.com, the 2015 Evolution Kit (SEK-3500U) will be compatible with Samsung’s F9000 series (2013) and HU series (2014) ultra HD televisions. The kit’s addition will bring them at par with the company’s latest smart-TV offerings—some of which it began shipping last month—both in terms of software and hardware capabilities. As you may know, Samsung’s 2015 smart TV range is the first to run on Tizen, a Linux-based operating system the Korean firm developed in partnership with Intel and a few other companies. Once you have plugged the add-on device into the TV’s proprietary Evolutionary Kit port, you will be able to update your TV to Tizen and the new five-panel Smart Hub user interface. And with the update including HEVC and VP9 codecs, the site says you can look forward to delighting in some glorious, buttery-smooth 4K/60p video action. On the hardware front, the upgrade kit includes an octa-core processor, extra RAM, a new touch remote, and HDMI 2.0 ports with HDCP 2.2. Samsung has the 2015 Evolutionary Kit listed for preorder for $400. 18. When it comes to rumors of smartphones, there are plenty to go around especially when you take into consideration the number of players that are in the market. The latest round of rumors involve Samsung of South Korea, where they are tipped to be working on a Tizen-based Z2, as well as – get this, a global Tizen smartphone. Samsung must have been smitten by the kind of success that they met with the Samsung Z1 in India and Bangladesh, two countries with huge populations, and it seems that this has spurred the company to deliver new Tizen-based smartphones. One of those is said to be the Samsung Z2, which will take over the aforementioned device, while the other is touted to be a global Tizen smartphone that will sport a higher level of hardware specifications. Whispers claim that the Samsung Z2 will feature some notable improvements over its predecessor, including a 32-bit quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, a TFT-LCD display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, and a 2,000mAh battery. Expect to see new Tizen 3.0 UI accompany it, but other than that, additional details are scant. The other global Tizen handset is tipped to make its way to the US, China, South Korea, Russia, India, Malaysia, South Asia, and selected countries in Europe, where it will sport mid-range hardware including a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display, 2GB RAM, an 8MP shooter at the back and a 2,600 mAh battery. 19. The Samsung TV SDK Team is pleased to release the Tizen-based Samsung TV SDK 1.4. The SDK provides developers with the tools they need to begin developing for the Tizen TV platform. The tool set includes an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), a light-weight TV Simulator for testing web apps, and a TV Emulator. The Tizen-based Samsung TV SDK combines the best features of a TV with the power of web based technologies. By combining the size, input, and multimedia benefits of a TV with the connectivity features of the internet, developers can create innovative new experiences for their users. 20. WhatsApp’s voice calling feature is available for Android users, and it looks like customers who purchased the Samsung Z1 have something to rejoice about as WhatsApp for Tizen has been updated with voice calling support as well. If you’re the owner of the Samsung Z1, you’ll just need to launch the WhatsApp app and you will see the new feature available for your use. At this point in time Samsung Z1 owners will only be able to call Android devices who has the updated feature, or other Samsung Z1 owners. This effectively brings the voice calling feature to two platforms – Android and Tizen, with iOS users left having to wait for their update which has been scheduled for a rollout in the coming weeks. As pointed out by SamMobile, the reason why the Tizen version of WhatsApp managed to get this feature ahead of a more “prominent” platform like iOS is because the Tizen version of WhatsApp is an emulated version of the Android app. This means that it is possible for Tizen users to receive the same updates and features as its Android counterpart without too much fuss or hassle. Like we said iOS users will still have to wait a couple of weeks for their feature, and there’s still no word on when voice calling will be rolled out to users of BlackBerry or Windows Phone platforms. 21. Samsung’s New TouchWiz UI Was Apparently Inspired By Tizen When Samsung launched their new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones they also released a new version of their TouchWiz UI. According to Samsung their update TouchWiz UI is around 40 percent lighter than the previous version. Now according to a recent report the new design of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI was apparently inspired by Tizen, this is Samsung’s new mobile OS that they have been trying to get off the ground. This would make sense for Samsung to incorporate some of the design elements from Tizen into their TouchWiz UI, as the company plans to launch more Tizen smartphones in the future. Samsung could one day switch from Android to Tizen as their main mobile OS, although they would need to make their new OS more popular in order to do this. One way to do this would be to give both Tizen and Android a similar look, and we could see further changes to the design of their Android UI in the future. 22. Three weeks ago, the company released in India the Samsung Z1, its first smartphone powered by Tizen, a homegrown alternative to Google Inc.’s Android operating system. This week, Samsung is pushing the Samsung Z1 into Bangladesh, a neighbor of India with more than 150 million people and a similarly low rate of smartphone penetration. After several missteps and rethinks, Samsung’s strategy for its Tizen smartphones is taking a clear shape: the company is aiming the fledgling platform squarely at first-time smartphone users, many of whom may not even have a bank account. The Samsung Z1 is selling in India for about $90. To that end, Samsung has been touting the “lightweight” nature of the Tizen operating system, meaning that it requires relatively little computing power and can handle most tasks without requiring pricey high-end specifications. That same lightweight approach has also allowed Samsung to use Tizen as the platform for many of the devices it is hoping will populate its “connected home,” from televisions to smart watches and home appliances. Despite concerns that Samsung’s new smartphone would face stiff competition in India, where several local handset makers are touting low-end smartphones — some of them in partnership with Google — Samsung says that its Tizen smartphones have received “positive responses” there. Positive enough, it seems, to at least push Tizen into a second country. Source: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/02/06/samsung-extends-tizen-smartphone-to-bangladesh/
  23. South Korea-based Samsung has just begun domestic sales of high-end televisions with a smart interface powered by its own Tizen operating system. It is part of a wider push by the consumer electronics firm to incorporate the software in a wide range of its home products - everything from fridges and washing machines to robotic vacuum cleaners. As well as making its devices less dependent on rival systems like Google Android, Samsung believes Tizen OS will allow more seamless communication between its own devices. Previously Samsung's smart TV interfaces have been criticised as being slow and delivering a poor user experience. So - how effectively does Tizen address these issues? The BBC's North America Technology Correspondent Richard Taylor got a rundown of some of its features. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-31302315

However, we would like to invite all Tizen developers to join our site here and as it grows, we will expand any section needing growth per your request and will tailor sections to members who are developers and your needs for conversation. We look forward to developer participation here at Samsung Tizen Forum.
