With the previous launch of the Odyssey G9 in 2020, Samsung pushed the boundaries of premium gaming monitors with smooth and brilliant picture quality. Now with the industry’s first Quantum Mini LED curved display delivering the most refined detail regardless of the game played, the Odyssey Neo G9 is catapulting the gaming monitor category forward. Featuring Quantum Matrix Technology combined with super-fast response and refresh rates, Odyssey Neo G9 delivers an unrivaled dynamic picture and premium performance for all gamers.

“Samsung addressed the demands and expectations of even the most demanding gamers with the launch of the groundbreaking Odyssey gaming monitor portfolio last year,” said Hyesung Ha, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With the introduction of the Odyssey Neo G9, equipped with Quantum Mini LED displays, we are excited to offer a state-of-the-art gaming experience to our customers and demonstrate our continuous leadership in the market.”

The Odyssey Neo G9 utilizes the same Mini LED technology built into Samsung’s latest Neo QLED lineup. This next-generation display technology is enabled by a new light source, Quantum Mini LED. At 1/40 the height of a conventional LED,1 the Quantum Mini LED has incredibly thin micro layers filled with many more LEDs.

To kick off the series, Samsung Newsroom met with the developers and strategic planners of Samsung Gaming Hub,1 which combines the power of streaming and gaming all in one place. From the story of the platform’s development to insights on their favorite games now available on Samsung Smart TVs, the experts behind Samsung Gaming Hub share the inside story of Samsung’s new all-in-one cloud gaming experience.

Power Up Your Gameplay Visuals With the Neo QLED
Samsung continues to lead innovation in Smart TV technology, driven by the goal of providing more and increasingly better entertainment options for consumers. As a result, the company decided to explore new gaming features that could be enjoyed specifically on Samsung Smart TVs.

In 2018, Samsung broke new ground by becoming the first in the industry to implement Auto Game Mode on TVs. Since then, Samsung has led the way in developing Smart TVs focused on leveling up the gaming experience. As a result, for the past four years, Samsung has won the CES Innovation Awards in the gaming category. In addition, Neo QLED proved its technological prowess last year by becoming the first TV to receive certification for Gaming TV Performance from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a well-regarded electrical engineering certification institute in Germany.

The Gaming TV Performance recognition from the VDE is granted based on the qualities of ‘Low Input Lag’ and ‘HDR with a brightness of higher than 1,000 nits.’

Input lag refers to the time it takes for an input command on a gamepad to appear on the screen. The shorter the input lag, the faster the response speed, allowing players greater control over their gameplay experience. The input lag for Samsung’s Neo QLED was 10ms or below in all game segments, meeting or exceeding the evaluation standards across the board.

The TV was also recognized for its technological advancement in HDR as well. Neo QLED provides the optimal contrast by making brighter screens even brighter and darker screens even darker. This technology earned Neo QLED the VDE certification.

What’s more, since last year, the entire line-up of Neo QLED has been equipped with the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro feature — another industry first. The FreeSync Premium provides a soft yet vivid picture quality by reducing or removing input delay, lagging screens and screen distortion while connecting your game console or PC to the TV display. As such, users can enjoy fluid, tear-free racing games with Neo QLED.

The Best of Gaming, All in One Place
With the hardware in place, powerful software is the next step for leveling up any home gaming rig. Launched on June 30th, the Samsung Gaming Hub will be the ultimate home for gaming, using only your TV.

The Gaming Hub is the Smart Hub’s new section dedicated to the latest games. Acting as a go-to streaming platform, the Samsung Gaming Hub displays popular games, recently played games and recommendations just for you — all in one, convenient place. No console is required. Gamers can simply select any game on the screen and play instantly. They won’t even have to wait for the game to download. It’s all there, right away. The Samsung Gaming Hub also supports multitasking, letting users explore videos or listen to music while playing games.

▲ Heej Chung, GEM PM of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

“The biggest advantage is that the users can enjoy streaming games through Samsung Smart TVs and monitors without having to buy any extra gear,” said Heej Chung. “In other words, it’s a comprehensive game service where users can enjoy gaming content and experiences all at once in Samsung Smart TVs.”

“The way we watch videos has evolved from playing VHS tapes and installing set-top boxes to subscribing to OTT services and streaming videos. Likewise, the way we play games has shifted to gaming on the cloud,” said Chung. “Just as Samsung TVs have evolved with how we watch videos, we want to offer a better gaming experience for users.”

The Future of Games, for All
The Samsung Gaming Hub is gaining attention from users worldwide for giving users instant and seamless access to a wide variety of games. By partnering with NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Google Stadia and Utomik, Samsung is offering a selection of games beloved by gamers available on demand.

However, the benefits don’t stop there — the time, money and hassle involved with buying compatible equipment for different consoles, and the lengthy process of installing and uninstalling games for the sake of storage space, are all resolved with the Samsung Gaming Hub.

▲ JunHo Hwang, Software R&D Lab of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

“In the past, we had to buy a separate gear to play exclusive games,” said Junho Hwang. “What’s more, gamers who bought the DL (downloaded) version of games had to delete previously installed games often to secure enough storage to install new ones.”

“However, with the Samsung Gaming Hub, users can explore and play games offered by our various partner companies without buying a separate console,” said Hwang. “Since games are streamed, users don’t need to worry about storage space or installation time at all.”

▲ Jay Park, GEM PM of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

This makes the gaming industry, as anyone can play and enjoy CPU-intensive games, even without a PC. “The Samsung Gaming Hub provides games on the cloud, so users don’t need to worry about minimum system requirements or recommended configurations,” said Jay Park. “With the low latency mode and AI upscaling, we’ve improved performance and resolution, which are the most important aspects of cloud gaming.”

Stream Xbox Straight to Your TV
The news that surprised gamers the most this year was the collaboration agreement between Samsung Electronics and Microsoft. Through the partnership, Samsung’s Gaming Hub became the world’s first Smart platform to include the Xbox app. This means that 2022 Samsung Smart TV user can enjoy Xbox-exclusive games without having to buy a console.

▲ Juyeon Park, GEM PM of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

“I’ve been a gamer since I was a kid in elementary school, so this has been the most enjoyable and exciting project for me. I hope many gamers will feel free to play these games without worrying about buying gear,” said Juyeon Park.

Top Video Game Picks From Samsung Developers
As more and more at home gamers turn to playing games on large, high-resolution screens, we wanted to know — what are the best games to play on Samsung Smart TVs?

Hwang recommends “It Takes Two,” a game where the main characters, Cody and May, work as a couple and try to escape a fantasy world and return to Rose, their daughter. “The storyline has to do with family, and it’s also not so difficult to play either,” said Hwang. “It’s a fun game to play with family members who are new to video games.”

For solo players, Jay Park recommends “Forza Horizon 5,” a racing game chosen by more than 10 million gamers. “The game takes place in Mexico, so it’s great for enjoying the natural scenery abroad. You can also play with expensive cars without worrying about taking care of them, so it’s quite cathartic,” said Park. “I’ve played this game while testing the Gaming Hub, and the time just flew by. I was so drawn into the experience.”

      Fun for the Whole Family
These days, we live in a world where our TV instantly connects us to thrilling action movies, or up-to-date news from all over the world, anytime. While quality gear is important, what matters more to consumers is quality content.

“We came up with the idea of the Samsung Gaming Hub so that anyone, with their friends and family, could start playing games just as people naturally turn on a TV at home,” said Heej Chung. “I hope the Samsung Gaming Hub will be a starting point to deliver the joy of gaming for all users, not just gamers.”

The visionaries behind Samsung Gaming Hub also emphasized their determination to expand content experiences. “We’re going to keep adding more content and updating new features. We are just getting started, so we hope many people will show encouragement and interest so that this service can further develop.”

The original iPhone launched 15 years ago, on June 29th, 2007, revolutionizing the industry. Other companies in the business had two choices: copy the iPhone, or stick with what they were doing. Google immediately saw the genius behind the iPhone and overhauled Android so that it was more like the iPhone instead of a BlackBerry clone. But it was Samsung that really made the most of the iPhone in the years that followed, copying everything about that original iPhone.
The topic resurfaced 15 years later during a documentary released ahead of the iPhone’s 15th anniversary. It’s in this context that an Apple executive commented on the way Samsung copied the iPhone in the early years.
      15 years of iPhone
The Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern made the iPhone anniversary documentary. The video features various current and former Apple executives talking about what it was like to make the first iPhone. They also explained all the innovations that followed. From the original iPhone to the iPhone 13, the clip shows the iconic designs and the features that helped Apple transform the industry.
The clip looks at what the iPhone (and smartphones in general) mean for the younger generations, who were born into a world that relies on smartphones for everything. From keeping in contact with loved ones to work and entertainment, these devices do it all. And with that comes the problem of spending too much time on these screens.
Apple’s marketing chief Greg Joswiak talked to Stern about the history of the iPhone. And that involved the impact the handset had on Apple’s competition. It’s in this context that Samsung came up, with the executive explaining how Apple felt about Samsung copying the iPhone.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus smartphone. Image source: Samsung Did Samsung copy the iPhone?
“They were annoying,” Joswiak said of Samsung. “And they were annoying because, as you know, they ripped off our technology. They took the innovations that we had created and created a poor copy of it, and just put a bigger screen around it. So, yeah, we were none too pleased.”
Apple sued Samsung around the world starting in 2011, and it won one of the biggest cases, getting $1 billion initially. The final amount was just over half that following Samsung’s appeal. But by then, Samsung was already the big winner in the mobile industry. Its decision to ruthlessly copy the iPhone was the smartest decision Samsung ever made.
The Korean giant never acknowledged any wrongdoing, and the two companies eventually settled in 2018. By then, Samsung was no longer copying the iPhone design and experience as blatantly. The Galaxy S phones had a different design and a different user interface.
Ironically enough, most current smartphones look similar nowadays. And many Android designs still copy the iPhone.
There’s no question that Apple took inspiration from Samsung too, at least when it comes to bringing bigger screens to the iPhone. But, to this day, Samsung continues to copy Apple’s iPhone innovations.
Samsung also regularly mocks the iPhone maker in ads it then has to suppress when it eventually copies the very features it mocked.
The Apple vs. Samsung camp continues to be divided even now, 15 years after the launch of the first iPhone. Each side accuses the other of copying mobile innovations. But nobody can ever forget Samsung’s 132-page internal document that shows Samsung’s plan to copy the iPhone pixel by pixel.
That Apple vs. Samsung rivalry is only a tiny part of The Journal’s iPhone documentary, which is certainly worth watching in full. You’ll find it at this link.

With the ever-growing popularity and accessibility of social video platforms, today, anyone can become a creator. To grow their platforms, new creators are choosing professional-grade editing programs and hardware to produce exciting content and increase subscribers. As a result, the demand for high-quality monitors is skyrocketing.

According to Markets & Research, the global Professional Monitors market size was estimated to be worth $104.86 million in 2021 and is forecasted to be $149.21 million by 2028.

If you’re looking to break into content creation, use the following checklist when picking your next monitor.

      # Want To Be a Content Creator? Here Is How To Pick The Perfect Monitor

      # Not Familiar With The Terminology Yet? This Guide Will Help You
Looking to choose a new monitor for content creation? Don’t let unfamiliar jargon put you off. Let’s take a deep dive into the world of monitors.

      1. DCI-P3: Reproducing accurate colors from shot to screen

DCI-P3, the triangle highlighted on the colorful diagram, constitutes a range of colors that can be presented on a given display, such as a monitor. Simply put, they use figures to indicate the extent of a display’s color handling capabilities. This is why it is called a color gamut, because gamut means a full scope or range of something.

Color standards vary by institutes depending on the purpose and criteria of the color gamut. Classic examples include DCI-P3, sRGB and Adobe RGB. The triangle refers to a percentage of the visible spectrum on a display based on each color standard.

sRGB Adobe RGB DCI-P3 – sRGB is a standard RGB color space that Microsoft and HP created cooperatively in 1996 to use on monitors and printers.
      – Developed by Adobe in 1998, Adobe RGB was designed to express digital color for photo.
      – DCI-P3 was created by Digital Cinema Initiatives to efficiently express color for a digital projector.
      – sRGB covers just 33.3% of visible colors. – It is commonly used for design and photo editing. – It is widely used in HDR content. DCI-P3 presents a more optimized color space for digital videos.

To find the best monitor for video content creation, you need to check a monitor’s color gamut. It is essential to display your video as intended without color distortion, whether on a computer or mobile device. Make sure the monitor supports ‘DCI-P3’ if you often edit videos.

      2. HDR: Selecting a monitor that provides incredible contrast and accentuates details

Customers are good at intuitively picking up on the quality of a display, so the ability to deliver life-like picture quality is just as crucial as accurate color reproduction.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) refers to a technology that delivers true-to-life pictures by delicately adjusting brightness. You can assess HDR performance based on VESA DisplayHDR ratings created by VESA. VESA Certified DisplayHDR guarantees a display’s quality, allowing you to enjoy the best HDR experience.

VESA assigns a number grade representing peak brightness on certified monitors. In other words, the larger the number, the wider the range of brightness a monitor can express.

As VESA Certified DisplayHDR guarantees a display’s quality, it is highly recommended that serious creators invest in a product that is DisplayHDR 400-verified, or higher. This will enable you to enjoy the best HDR experience possible.

      3. Matte Display: Avoiding bright light without installing unnecessary accessories

Content creators can often be disrupted by glare or reflection on their monitors. It is crucial for creators to work on a screen that delivers consistency in all environments regardless of external lighting factors. Bright lights or changes in monitor angle can cause color distortions detrimental to overall content quality, which is why many editors now use monitor hoods while working.

However, installing a hood to prevent glare and reflection can undermine work productivity since it is difficult to adjust a monitor’s angle or height. ViewFinity S8 solves such inconveniences by adopting the Matte Display to minimize glare. Low Reflection Film, Samsung’s proprietary technology that reduces glare and reflection, helps you check content even under bright light regardless of angle. As such, ViewFinity S8 received the world’s first UL1 Verification for Glare Free.
