Galaxy S22 Plus and Ultra prices drop by $200 with no strings attached

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

The Galaxy S22 series could have been Samsung’s biggest Galaxy S success in several years. But Samsung got in the way of that. A string of mishaps tarnished the phone’s reputation within weeks after its launch. Chiefly among them was the throttling scandal that eroded trust in Samsung, especially in Korea. The company dropped the Galaxy S22 price in the region a few weeks ago, and now it’s offering big Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra discounts to US buyers.

There’s no indication that price discounts in the US are related to the Galaxy S22 performance issues. If anything, Samsung ties the promotional prices with Mother’s day on its website. But the better deals are available on Samsung’s Amazon store. The Galaxy S22 Plus price drop means you can get a larger display for the same price as the Galaxy S22.

The throttling scandal

The Galaxy S22 throttling scandal came to light in Korea, and that’s the market where Samsung hurried to issue a fix first. The software update then came to Europe. These regions received the Exynos version of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The US models rock the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

Samsung is still facing legal action and inquiries from regulators in its home country. That explains why it hurried to launch price discounts for all three Galaxy S22 handsets so soon after launch.

Samsung worked with all Korean carriers to significantly increase the Galaxy S22 subsidies in the country. Buyers can purchase any of the three phones for half their price in the region, as long as they also purchase new contracts from the mobile operators. The price cut is still significant, but it only works as long as you get on the kind of plans that benefit the cellular operators.

On the other hand, the price cuts aren’t surprising for an Android flagship. These handsets lose value faster than iPhones, and it happens quickly. That could be a reason why Samsung is ready to offer an instant $200 price cut on the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra in the US right now. The Galaxy S22’s price goes down by $100, which is on par with the iPhone 13 Mini.

The Galaxy S22 Plus price cut

You can take advantage of two types of Galaxy S22 deals right now. First, Samsung offers $100 off any Galaxy S22 purchase on its website as a Mother’s day special offer. However, Samsung’s deal only works if you want to double the storage — and why shouldn’t you want that on a phone with no microSD support?

But you can’t take that $100 price discount on the cheapest Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, or Galaxy S22 Ultra. Prices start at $799.99 for the Galaxy S22, which gets you either the 128GB or 256GB phone version. The same goes for the Galaxy S22 Plus, which sells for $999.99 regardless of storage. Move to the Ultra, and the 128GB and 256GB versions cost $1,199.99 each.

These are the prices before the trade-in discounts, and other deals are applied.

But move over to Amazon, and that’s where you get the real Galaxy S22 discounts. Importantly, the deals apply to the base memory models. If you’re fine with 128GB of storage, the Galaxy S22 price goes down to $699.99 on Amazon. Again, the iPhone 13 mini starts at the same price point if you take advantage of the instant $30 discount on Apple’s site.

The Galaxy S22 Plus is perhaps the sweetest Galaxy S22 you can score right now if you want a non-Ultra experience. Samsung cut the Plus’s price by $200 regardless of storage. The 128GB version costs $799.99. The 256GB model is priced at $849.99.

If you need a stylus in your Galaxy S22 experience, you can score $200 savings on the Ultra. The 128GB and 512GB models get the $200 price cut. Strangely enough, the 256GB model costs more than the 512GB variant, which is probably a Samsung/Amazon mistake.

Should you buy any of the cheaper Galaxy S22 models?

These savings show that Samsung is willing to do whatever it takes to sell the Galaxy S22 phones. A few weeks ago, I said you shouldn’t buy the Galaxy S22 even after the price cuts. I explained that Samsung misled buyers in various ways about the Galaxy S22. It’s not just the throttling.

If you’re aware of all that and don’t mind anything, now might be a great time to get the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, or Galaxy S22 Ultra. These price cuts will probably be short-lived on Samsung.com and Amazon. But they should be back in the future. That’s because Android flagships lose value fast and because Samsung wants to sell as many phones as possible.

Samsung makes the best Android tablets on the market right now. It would be difficult to argue otherwise. Amazon’s lineup of Fire tablets is impressive, but it’s mostly comprised of low-cost models for people on a budget. Meanwhile, Samsung’s lineup of Galaxy tablets spans everything from entry-level models to high-end flagships.
Today, for one day only, Amazon is running an impressive sale on Samsung Galaxy tablets. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite is down to $269.99 instead of $430, and the high-end Galaxy Tab S8+ is $300 off at $599.99. Both of these deals are only available until the end of the day on Friday.

I’m an iPad user, and I have been ever since Apple released the first-generation model back in 2010. If you’re in the market for a new iPad, you’ll find plenty of discounts in our guide on the best Apple deals. That being said, I use the term “iPad user” lightly since I have never really found that tablets fit into my workflow.
If I want to look something up on the web or email my email, I use my smartphone. If I want to stream a movie or TV show, I use a television. And if I need to get some work done, I use a computer. As you can see, I pretty much have all the bases covered.
But not everyone is like me, of course. Plenty of valid use cases exist for tablets, and millions of people buy them each year. They’re great for families to share or for streaming movies if you don’t have a TV in your bedroom. The list goes on and on.
If I was going to buy an Android tablet, it would definitely be a Samsung Galaxy tablet. And today, Amazon is running a fantastic one-day sale on two different Samsung Galaxy tablet models.

      It’s render season, people!
As reported by MySmartPrice, renowned leaker OnLeaks has released a number of new renders showing off what the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will look like. According to the report and the renders, the new Classic will “feature a rotating bezel around the circular display.” It also says that the “Pro” name is going away in favor of the new “Classic” name.
The report also speculates that the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will feature multiple strap options, a likely feature that is popular with most smartwatches these days.
The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is expected to debut at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event this summer. It’s still unclear when the event will kick off, but the last event in 2022 happened at the beginning of August, so it’s likely that this year will be close to the same.
I’m personally still good with my Apple Watch Ultra, but that’s also because the Classic is definitely not being sold as an adventure device. It looks like a pretty sick watch, though, so I’m sure people in the Samsung ecosystem will be really happy with the level of style the company could bring to it.

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra is the king of Android phones right now. It’s also very expensive, with a starting price of $1,200 for the cheapest version with 256GB of storage. But if you’re in the market for one and you don’t want to sign a carrier contract, there’s an opportunity to get one with a nice big discount.

If you want to pay as little as possible for a new Galaxy S23 smartphone from Samsung, you’ll need to take advantage of a deal from a wireless carrier.
Check out our guides on the best Verizon phone deals and the best AT&T phone deals. As you can see, you can get a hot new Galaxy S23 handset for free right now from either carrier. The problem, however, is that you have to sign a contract to get those deals. And these days, it’s a 36-month contract.
When you get a phone for free from a wireless carrier, the cost of the phone is spread out across 36 monthly bill credits. If you cancel your service before the 36 months are up, or if you want to upgrade early, you’ll need to settle the balance that you owe on the phone.
Or, you could just buy a factory unlocked Galaxy S23 Ultra while Amazon has a deal that drops it to its lowest price ever.

Word on the street is that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 foldable phones earlier than usual this year. If the rumors are accurate, the handsets will get a late July launch event and hit stores a few weeks later. That might be Samsung’s answer to the looming Google Pixel Fold threat, a phone that should be unveiled in a few weeks at I/O 2023. With that in mind, it’s not surprising to see Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 specs and prices leak in late April.
This is business as usual for Galaxy flagships, which leak in great detail far ahead of Samsung’s Unpacked announcement events. That said, there’s a lot to like about these Fold 5 and Flip 5 leaks, especially if you’re a fan of Samsung foldables.
Leaker TheGalox_ posted the information on Twitter, and we’re looking at what’s rumored to be a complete set of specs for both handsets.
The Fold 5 will reportedly feature a familiar design, packing a 7.6-inch foldable display and a 6.2-inch external display. They’re both 120Hz AMOLED screens that should be brighter than their predecessors. The external screen will have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass, while the foldable screen should also be more durable than before.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 may deliver additional design improvements based on this leak. We’re looking at a new hinge design that will reduce the size of the screen gap. Also, the handset will have a less noticeable crease. The phone should be IPX8 water resistant, with the leaker claiming the Fold 5 is thinner and lighter than before.
As expected, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor will power the Fold 5. That’s the same chip Samsung used for the Galaxy S23 series. Other specs include 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB UFS 4.0 storage options.
On the camera front, we’re looking at a triple-lens setup on the back, featuring 50-, 12-, and 10-megapixel lenses. The camera should offer improved video recording, up to 8K 30fps. The under-display camera will also get improvements, although the leak doesn’t mention them.
Finally, the leaker mentions improvements for the vibration motor, speakers, and S Pen support in this Galaxy Z Fold 5 specs leak.
All of that will make the Fold 5 expensive, with Samsung expected to continue charging $1,799 for the cheapest option.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is an alternative to that, starting at $999. The same leaker posted specs and features for the handset as well.
The Flip 5 specs leak reads similarly to the Fold 5. The only changes concern the size, as well as Samsung’s RAM and storage options. The phone features a 6.7-inch 120Hz foldable display and a 3.4-inch external screen. The latter is a big upgrade over the Fold 4’s outer screen.
As for the memory and storage, the Flip 5 will reportedly feature 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and two UFS 4.0 storage options, 256GB and 512GB. The $999 model might pack 128GB UFS 3.1 flash memory that’s not as fast as UFS 4.0.
As always, nothing is official at this point. But most Galaxy-related rumors are accurate, so there’s a very high probability that the information above pans out.
