Galaxy S23 Ultra zoom camera might not get an upgrade

Recommended Posts

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Galaxy S23 is still a ways out, with Samsung getting ready to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 in a few weeks. But the 2023 flagship has started appearing in leaks. The newest rumor claims that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature the same zoom camera as its predecessor. According to a new report, it will have a 10-megapixel shooter, just like in previous years.

Samsung might be looking to cut costs by sticking with a tried and true sensor for the telephoto lens. But that’s not necessarily bad considering the grim outlook for Android handset sales in the coming months. Moreover, the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s zoom performance is spectacular already. Why fix what isn’t broken?

The Galaxy S Ultra introduced Samsung’s first periscope zoom cameras. The Galaxy S20 Ultra was the first Samsung phone to support 100x zoom, which was more of a marketing gimmick than a feature you could reliably use. The internet was filled at the time with camera samples at different zoom levels, but anything over 30x showed that Samsung’s Super Resolution Zoom wasn’t something most people needed.

Fast forward to the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s periscope camera, and the zoom experience has improved significantly. Those samples showing 100x zoom photos are a lot cleaner. And they’re finally usable.

Galaxy S23 Ultra’s zoom camera

That’s not to say that Samsung can’t continue to improve the zoom experience on future phones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. But it might do it with the help of software rather than radical hardware changes. The folks at GalaxyClub have learned that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature the same 10-megapixel telephoto camera as its predecessor. As a reminder, Ultra phones actually feature two zoom cameras.

If the Galaxy S23 Ultra camera rumor is accurate, then the phone might also feature two 10-megapixel zoom cameras.

Well-known leaker Ice Universe is already accusing Samsung of cutting costs. The Korean giant faced similar allegations earlier this year when the Galaxy S22’s throttling mess came to light. At the time, Samsung had to apologize to shareholders and customers. Among other things, Samsung said it didn’t cut costs making the Galaxy S22 series. But those discussions focused on the Galaxy S22’s chip tech and cooling abilities.

The camera upgrade that really matters

Getting back to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the same Ice has praised the zoom experience of the S22 Ultra in the past. Maybe cutting costs on the zoom camera isn’t bad considering the state of the economy. The S22 Ultra zoom experience is already amazing. And we’re still looking at zoom features that users might not need in most cases.

— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) February 10, 2022

What’s really important in a flagship phone is the primary camera experience. And Samsung is already rumored to include a 200-megapixel sensor in the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s rear camera setup. That’s the kind of camera upgrade that will matter more than the zoom camera hardware.

We’ll have plenty of time to discover the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera secrets. The new Samsung flagship series won’t launch until early 2023, and everything will leak by then.

Take the First Step Towards Unfettered Home Gaming With Samsung Gaming Hub
The biggest hurdle for many who wish to start at-home gaming is the cost and inconvenience of buying and setting up gaming equipment. PC games come with a set of obstacles as well. Gamers need to have all the necessary accessories and computer parts, such as a CPU, graphics card and monitor, in order to have a smooth gaming experience. No gaming PC, console or additional gaming gear is needed; all you need is a controller to enjoy gaming on a Samsung Smart TV. Moreover, users don’t need to worry about storage space for their games either. Just like watching a TV series or a movie on a streaming platform, all you need to do to start playing is simply select a game title.

On Samsung Gaming Hub, users can access games from various industry-leading partners, including NVIDIA GeForce Now, Google Stadia and Utomik. Additionally, Gaming Hub supports Xbox Game Pass, making it the world’s first Smart TV platform to include the Xbox app. Through this partnership, Samsung Gaming Hub users are now able to stream hundreds of high-quality games including blockbuster titles. Moreover, they can play new games on day one of release from Xbox Games Studios and enjoy iconic franchise games from Bethesda Softworks and more, all without having to buy a console.

Users can also continue playing a game on their tablet or smartphone after they have begun playing it on a Smart TV. By logging in using a cloud service, all saved files from a TV, tablet or smartphone are linked together. This allows users to cross-play games from anywhere in their home regardless of which device they use.1

One of the most exciting Galaxy Z Fold 4 rumors to date concerns the foldable’s specs. More specifically, the phone’s System-on-Chip (SoC). The Fold 4 and Flip 4 will feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC rather than the regular 8 Gen 1 or the Exynos 2200. And the Fold 4 should deliver tremendous performance gains thanks to that. That’s good news for anyone worried about the chips that powered the Galaxy S22 series.
Rumors about chip choices for Android flagships coming out in the second half of the year shouldn’t be that exciting. In most years, the Android flagships launching in the second half would feature the same SoC as the phones that were released in the previous six months.
But the Galaxy S22 performance scandal hurt Samsung earlier this year, leading to speculations that Samsung would abandon the Exynos 2200 in favor of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon.
      Galaxy S22 throttling scandal
In some years, Qualcomm releases improved variants of the SoCs that power Android flagships released in the first half of the year. 2022 is one such year, with Qualcomm delivering the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 to replace the regular 8 Gen 1 model.
That was even better news for Samsung fans looking to buy the Fold 4 or Flip 4. And rumors said all 2022 foldables will feature the newest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 variant. Even early benchmarks leaked, suggesting the new processor will be faster than the previous variant. Reports also claimed the new chip will not overheat as much.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip. Image source: Qualcomm The Galaxy S22 throttling issue came from Samsung’s desire to prevent overheating and battery life issues on the handset. The software reduced the chip’s peak performance, except for benchmark apps, where Samsung was caught cheating. It’s the Exynos 2200 variant of the Galaxy S22 phones that suffered from throttling the most, not the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 model.
Still, there’s another reason to cheer for the 8 Plus Gen 1. Qualcomm moved production from Samsung to TSMC for the new SoC.
Galaxy Z Fold 4’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 performance leaked
Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 next Wednesday. The phones will hit stores a few weeks later. Once that happens, users will be able to judge for themselves the performance of the new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip. And we’ll see plenty of reports detailing the phones’ performance and throttling.
But we have a new rumor to look at until then, which teases massive performance gains for the two handsets.
The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 CPU will be 15% faster when it comes to CPU performance, according to the tweet above. We assume the speed difference concerns last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 3. But the leaker doesn’t specify the other device/SoC in the comparison. Should the speed gains concern the Galaxy S22, then the Fold 4’s performance would be even more impressive.
The leaker also says that the GPU will deliver a tremendous jump, rising by nearly 60%. The NPU would also be 68% faster than the reference model. Again, we’re assuming it’s the Fold 3. That’s the only way to present these performance gains.
The leaker addressed other Galaxy Fold 4 features, not just the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 performance. The foldable phone will feature a 4,400 mAh battery that supports 25W charging. That’s enough for the phone to reach a 50% charge in half an hour.
Finally, the Fold 4 will feature a 120Hz display with 1,000 nits brightness and Victus+ protection on the front and back.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 aren’t the only new Galaxy gadgets coming from Samsung’s Unpacked event next week. The Korean giant will also unveil new wearables during the show, including the Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, and the new Galaxy Buds Pro 2. These devices have appeared in various leaks, but the latest rumor is easily one of the most exciting. The Galaxy Watch 5 will come with fast charging support, allowing it to recharge the battery to nearly 50% in 30 minutes.
That’s a great feature to have on devices with limited battery life. If fast charging on smartwatches sounds familiar, that’s because Apple did the same thing with the Apple Watch Series 7 last year. And it’s a great feature to have to maximize the time you use the Watch.
How the Apple Watch Series 7 fast charging works
The Apple Watch Series 7 can reach an 80% charge in just 45 minutes. Apple also announced that the new Watch needs only 8 minutes of battery charging for the wearable to track your sleep for 8 hours.
Thus, the Series 7 solves a major issue with the Apple Watch. All models that Apple launched so far only deliver one-day battery life. You can stretch it to more than a day, depending on how much you use the Watch. But most people will have to recharge the wearable at night. And that’s a problem if you want the wearable to track your sleep.
Apple Watch Series 7 battery charging speeds, as listed on Apple.com Image source: Apple Inc. That’s why support for fast charging is crucial on devices like the Apple Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 5. It’s all the more important, the more sophisticated these gadgets get.
However, for fast charging to work, wearable devices need USB-C chargers. That’s the only way to enable fast charging on the Apple Watch Series 7. And the same goes for the upcoming Galaxy Watch 5.
      Galaxy Watch 5 charging speed
A leaker posted on Twitter images of the new Galaxy Watch 5 fast charger. It features a USB-C connector and supports 10W charging. The person also listed the speed estimate. The new smartwatch will reach 45% battery after just 30 minutes of charging.
The 10W charger is an upgrade over the 5W charger that shipped with the Galaxy Watch 4 last year. According to Samsung, that device needs 110 minutes to reach a full charge. It’s unclear why Samsung doesn’t support even faster charging, considering that the Apple Watch Series 7 uses a 20W charger for faster charging.
Assuming the estimate above is accurate, the 10W charger should do the job in over an hour. The Galaxy Watch 5 is also getting a larger battery than its predecessor. A larger battery and fast charging support should improve the Galaxy Watch 5 experience.
It’s unclear how long the Galaxy Watch 5 will last on a charge. Samsung will also launch a larger Galaxy Watch 5 Pro alongside the regular models. The Pro should feature an even larger battery, as it’s larger than the Watch 5 models. And it’ll likely support 10W charging as well. The Pro could offer multi-day battery life, but that’s just speculation.
The Galaxy Watch 4 offers a theoretical battery life of 40 hours. But daily charging might be needed for more active users.

Samsung Electronics released its Odyssey Neo G8, the world’s first 240Hz 4K gaming monitor. At CES 2022, it was awarded the Best of Innovation Award in the Gaming category, receiving recognition for its technological excellence. To explore the features of the world’s first and fastest gaming monitor, Samsung Newsroom takes you through an unboxing of the Odyssey Neo G8.

Samsung’s Odyssey Neo G8 Offers Enhanced Convenience With Matte Display, Ergonomic Stand and More

When you first open the box, the assorted parts, including the monitor, stand neck, stand base and power cable are the first things you see.1

Installing the monitor is very simple.2 First, connect the stand base to the back of the product and fasten it with a screw. Then, connect the stand base to the stand neck and fasten the screw on the bottom. Then, put on the back cover and turn it clockwise. The monitor is now ready to be used.

Once assembled, the 32-inch curved shape of the monitor is eye-catching. The monitor has a 1000R curved VA panel, which is a curvature most similar to a human’s field of vision. This curvature intensifies immersion while gaming, making you feel as if you are really inside the world of the game.

The Odyssey Neo G8’s Matte Display was also verified as ‘Glare-Free’ by global safety certification company UL (Underwriters Laboratories), meaning its panel reduces light reflection. The display absorbs surrounding light so the user can enjoy an immersive gaming experience without being hindered by external elements, such as sunlight from windows.

Consoles and other gaming accessories can also be easily connected to the monitor. When the Odyssey Neo G8 is turned on, its Auto Source Switch+ feature automatically detects other devices and switches the screen to the source of those devices.

Plus, the monitor offers a Height Adjustable Stand (HAS), as well as Swivel and Tilt functionality for ergonomic efficiency and Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) compliant mounting.

Unrivaled Speed With 0.001 Second Response Time and 240Hz Refresh Rate

The Odyssey Neo G8 boasts a fast response time of 1ms (0.001 second) (GtG),3 giving users a more vivid gaming experience when playing games that require fast response times. Games such as first-person shooters (FPS) and racing games change screens rapidly, and lag or slow response times could affect the outcome of the game. Luckily, the Odyssey Neo G8 keeps up with the pace and gives gamers the best chance to win the game.

Refresh rate, which measures how many times per second the display is able to show a new image, is also very important to gamers. The Odyssey Neo G8’s refresh rate of 240Hz provides a stable and smooth viewing experience.

The monitor also comes with Low Input Lag to enhance response time. Input Lag is an indicator that measures how long it takes for input from a keyboard or mouse to be shown on screen. The lower the input lag, the shorter the input time and the faster the response time. The Odyssey Neo G8 has a low input lag of 1ms, helping gamers play more accurately in games where every second matters.

The tearing effect is another factor that can determine the outcome of a game. This is when the screen lags and the display becomes choppy due to a communication issue between the PC and the monitor. The Odyssey Neo G8 supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro which minimizes screen tearing and lag when playing CPU-intensive games, allowing users to enjoy smooth visuals when playing games.

An Upgraded Vivid Gaming Environment With Quantum Matrix, HDR 2000 and Amazing UHD Picture Quality
As the Odyssey Neo G8 is the world’s fastest 4K gaming monitor, it boasts a UHD resolution of 3,840 x 2,160. The UHD resolution enlivens the game by providing vivid graphics, making it seem as if the world of the game is right in front of your eyes.

The Odyssey Neo G8 also features Quantum Matrix Technology, which is Samsung’s proprietary technology that controls picture quality. Quantum Matrix uses Quantum Mini LEDs, which are 1/40 the height of conventional LEDs, as a light source for even more precise control of contrast. This technology clearly displays the contrast between the darkest shadows and brightest objects in scenes that utilize a wide spectrum of colors, such as explosion scenes, creating a more vivid gaming experience. It also prevents the halo effect, in which the light from a bright area on the screen bleeds into darker areas surrounding it.

The Quantum HDR 2000 utilized in the Odyssey Neo G8 delivers maximum brightness for a rich HDR experience. Specifically, it provides 4,096 steps for screen brightness adjustments and supports a high static contrast ratio of a million-to-one. Furthermore, the local dimming zone displays the color black more precisely. By capturing the reflected light of an enemy’s movement, the user can easily discover where the enemy is hiding and also notice the details hidden behind the shadows.

Superior Backlighting That Changes According to the Display Color

The lighting on the back of the monitor makes your gaming experience feel more futuristic. The Odyssey Neo G8 comes with the CoreSync lighting feature, in which the monitor automatically detects the color at the center of the display and syncs it to the color of the lighting on the back of the monitor. The monitor can display five different light colors, enabling gamers to enjoy a modern, sleek vibe while gaming. When gaming in a dark place, the CoreSync feature can blur the line between reality and the game, fully immersing the player in the experience.

Odyssey Neo G8 Leads the Premium Gaming Monitor Market
The monitor’s fast response time and vivid picture quality maximize the immersive experience users can feel while playing a game. These modern features also help gamers be successful during gameplay, making the Odyssey Neo G8 the ideal choice for gamers.

The Odyssey Neo G8 has received positive reviews and is being called the “Best Gaming Monitor” by global media outlets. Techaeris and Trusted Review have raved about the Odyssey Neo G8, stating that it “offers up a fantastic picture and a high refresh rate,” and provides a “stunning, immersive gaming experience.”

The gaming monitor industry has gone beyond simply providing nice screens for game-playing. Products offering highly advanced features, such as fast speed, high picture quality and more, are becoming increasingly more important as they help gamers perform their best. The Odyssey Neo G8 is the top monitor for serious gamers who want to be immersed in the game while experiencing the best in picture quality during gameplay.

1 Accessories may vary by country or region.
2 Needs to be installed according to the instructions in the manual. Placing the curved panel alone on a desk or floor can cause damage to the product.
3 Gray to Gray. A unit of measurement of pixel speed. Used to measure the response time of gaming monitors.
