Samsung Galaxy Z Fold

Samsung’s big Unpacked press event of the summer is finally here, bringing fans a variety of new devices that will be available for preorder almost immediately after the show. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldable phones are the main attraction of the press conference. But Samsung also has new wearables to go along with its next-gen phones. We’re looking at the Galaxy Watch 5 series and the new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro wireless earphones.

Preorder Samsung’s new Galaxy devices right here.

The Fold 4 and Flip 4 represent Samsung’s newest foldable smartphones. They look almost identical to their predecessors, but Samsung has a few significant changes in place — especially for the Fold 4 model.

Designs aside, the two phones feature mostly the same main hardware components.

Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 platform powers the new Galaxy foldables, which should give them a significant performance bump over the Galaxy S22. And this System-on-Chip (SoC) should fix all the overheating and throttling issues from the previous generation.

The Galaxy Watch 5 comes in two sizes, keeping in place the circular design Samsung employs for its Apple Watch alternatives. But Samsung also unveiled a Pro version of the Watch 5 that offers a larger screen and better battery life.

The Galaxy Fold 4 is slightly shorter than its predecessor, but it’s also wider. This means the foldable screen is still quite large but the phone is more comfortable in the hand.

We’re looking at a 7.6-inch 120Hz panel with Ultra Thin Glass on top. The foldable has a redesigned hinge and should be slightly thinner than the Fold 3. It’s also 20g lighter than last year’s model.

Thanks to the new aspect ratio, the external display should be easier to use. It’s a 6.2-inch OLED panel that supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate.

The triple-lens camera system on the back also got a significant update. We’re looking at a 50-megapixel primary sensor, 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and 10-megapixel telephoto lens (3x zoom).

The selfie experience consists of a 4-megapixel under-display camera for the foldable screen and a 10-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera for the cover screen.

RAM and storage: 12GB of RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB storage

Battery: 4,400 mAh with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging

Colors: Beige, GreyGreen, Phantom Black

Price: Starts at $1,799 for the 256GB version — see all of Samsung’s preorder offers

Release date: August 25th

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: Specs, price, and release date

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 hasn’t seen as many design changes compared to the Fold 4. But we’re still looking at a clamshell foldable phone that should deliver a high-end Galaxy experience.

Samsung has improved the camera experience on the Flip 4. We’re still looking at 12-megapixel dual cameras on the back, but the wide camera has larger pixels. A 10-megapixel camera punches through the foldable screen.

The battery also got a big bump compared to last year’s models. Combined with the new, more efficient Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, battery life on this new model should see a substantial improvement.

RAM and storage: 8GB of RAM, 128GB/256GB of storage

Battery: 3,700 mAh with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging

Colors: Blue, Bora Purple, Graphite, and Pink Gold. Bespoke customizations will also be available from Samsung.

Price: Starts at $1,049 for the 128GB version — see all of Samsung’s preorder offers

Release date: August 25th

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5: Specs, price, and release date

The Galaxy Watch 5 series will come in GPS-only and Cellular models. We’re also looking at two sizes for the Watch 5: 40mm and 44mm. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will have an even larger screen and a bulkier design. We’re looking at a 45mm device with a physical rotating bezel.

All models should support faster charging speeds than the Galaxy Watch 4 series. That’s 10W instead of 5W. Add to that slightly larger battery packs, and the Watch 5 models should feature decent battery life.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro: Specs, price, and release date

Samsung is the latest smartphone vendor to renew its wireless earphone offerings. We already saw Google launch the new Pixel Buds Pro model, and Apple will follow with a new AirPods Pro 2 model reveal next month.

In the meantime, Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro model should help fill the void.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro come with active noise cancellation (ANC), a must-have feature on Pro earphones.

Besides ANC, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro will feature three microphones, 10mm drivers, 5.3mm tweeters, and IPX7 water resistance. Also, the new earphones feature Bluetooth 5.3 support.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2022 live stream
For months, Samsung has been hyping up its next-generation foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 should be the highlights of this Unpacked, as Samsung continues to iterate on the design while improving performance on both devices.
According to leaks, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will feature a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display as well as a 6.2-inch cover display. Inside the device are the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, 12GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and a 4,400 mAh battery. The rear triple camera array will contain 50 MP, 12 MP ultrawide, and 10 MP telephoto lenses.

Galaxy Unpacked brought exciting new product announcements for Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Z Fold3, and Galaxy Z Flip3. In this post, we'll go into more detail on how you can create delightful experiences for these devices in your own apps and watch faces.
Galaxy Watch4 / One UI Watch
The new Galaxy Watch4 announcement shines the spotlight on the new collaborative wearable platform from Samsung and Google. This change from Tizen to Wear OS opens doors for developers and designers to create exciting new designs.

As with earlier generations of Galaxy Watch models, designers can create beautiful work without coding. For Galaxy Watch4, we've introduced Watch Face Studio. Designers who built for Tizen-based devices using Galaxy Watch Studio will recognize how this new tool works.
For creators with existing designs built with Galaxy Watch Studio, there is also a tool to convert from the Tizen .tpk format to the Wear OS .aab format. This tool is called Galaxy Watch Studio Converter. As there are differences between Tizen and Wear OS, some functions are not supported in the conversion process.
For support on these tools, please visit the Samsung Developer Forums for Watch Face Studio and Watch Face Studio Converter.
Developers who are interested in creating applications for the new wearable platform can find more information at the Android Developers site.
      Galaxy Z Series
Galaxy Unpacked brought news of two exciting evolutions of Samsung phones with the Galaxy Z Fold3 and the Galaxy Z Flip3. For mobile developers, these devices provide opportunities to bring a first-class experience to users of their apps by utilizing unique features of the Z Series hardware and software.

Possibly the most notable addition to the Galaxy Z Fold3 is the S Pen, which had previously been available to owners of Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab devices. Developers can integrate the S Pen Remote and Air Actions into their apps. Code Labs with samples are available to get you started.
To check if S Pen is available on a device, this block of code can be used.
SpenRemote spenRemote = SpenRemote.getInstance(); if (!spenRemote.isConnected()) { spenRemote.connect(getContext(), new SpenRemote.ConnectionResultCallback() { @Override public void onSuccess(SpenUnitManager manager) { } @Override public void onFailure(int error) { } }); } Another feature of the Galaxy Z Fold3 that developers can access is the inner display, activated when the device is opened. Developers who want to provide a premium experience for these devices should ensure their apps provide continuity across the displays while interrupting their users as little as possible. Samsung provides a Code Lab and sample code to ensure that your apps provide the best experience possible.
The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 also provide a unique featured called Flex Mode. Flex Mode is activated when a user opens the Z Fold3 or Z Flip3 screen half-way. In this configuration, apps are notified to alter their appearance to give the best experience. As with other new features, a Code Lab with samples is available on this site.

Even though Galaxy Unpacked could not be experienced live, it brought new and exciting product announcements that improve our lives. We hope you enjoyed Galaxy Unpacked and use this information to make incredible experiences for your users.
