New offerings in the Odyssey, ViewFinity and Smart Monitor lineups at CES® 2023 will deliver unmatched image quality and a range of innovative features for people looking to work, play and live through their monitor display.

Samsung is revolutionizing the ultra-wide display category by launching the Odyssey Neo G9, the world’s first single monitor with dual ultra-high definition resolution. This innovation is a testament to Samsung’s industry-leading position in delivering the most immersive and lifelike gaming experience available on the market.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 Gaming Monitor (Model Name: G95NC) lets gamers see new levels of detail with an unparalleled field of view. The gaming monitor delivers 7,680×2,160 resolution and a 32:9 aspect ratio in one screen for the first time.

Its 1000R curved 57” screen uses quantum mini LED technology with VESA Display HDR 1000 specification to deliver superior imaging in any gaming environment, from shadows to bright scenes. The Matte Display reduces light reflection on the screen, minimizing distractions during the most intense gaming sessions.

It also boasts the world’s first DisplayPort 2.1 support, which transfers data approximately twice as fast as the previously used DisplayPort 1.4. In addition, the new DP2.1 allows lossless industry-standard Display Stream Compression (DSC) to transmit information without distortion.

The Odyssey Neo G9 also supports a refresh rate of 240Hz so that gamers will not miss a thing during fast-paced gameplay.

Odyssey OLED G9: Brighter Whites, Deeper Blacks and Near Infinite Color Contrast

The Odyssey OLED G9 (Model Number: G95SC) is the latest addition to the Odyssey lineup, featuring a dual quad-HD 49” 1800R curved display with a 32:9 ratio. Its quantum dot technology OLED lighting is controlled pixel-by-pixel, allowing a near-infinite color contrast ratio.

The OLED screen illuminates each pixel separately and does not rely on a backlight, allowing a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio while delivering true RGB and true black without color filters.

For smooth gameplay, the Odyssey OLED G9 also features a 0.1ms response time and 240Hz refresh rate to eliminate lagging and skipping.

The Odyssey OLED G9 also uses apps from partners like Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube through Smart Hub, which allows users to enjoy various over-the-top content using an internet connection without the need for a PC.

It is also equipped with Samsung Gaming Hub, an all-in-one game streaming platform that allows gamers to discover and play games in the cloud from partners such as Xbox and NVIDIA GeForce Now without needing a console or to download games.

    CES-Monitor-Lineup_PR_main3.jpg

The ViewFinity S9 (Model Number: S90PC) is Samsung’s newest addition to its monitor lineup. It features a 5K 27” screen for the first time and is optimized for creative professionals such as graphic designers and photographers. Its 5,120 x 2,880 resolution, combined with its wide color gamut of 99% DCI-P3, provides crisp and true-to-form details, and its average Delta E ≦21 color accuracy also produces clear and precise color representation, even in complicated or nuanced visual environments.

The monitor’s built-in Color Calibration Engine ensures precise screen color and brightness, allowing users to adjust white balance, Gamma and RGB color balance for perfect accuracy with their smartphones through the Samsung Smart Calibration application. The Matte Display limits light reflection and glare to minimize distractions while working.

Users can connect cameras and other devices to the monitor through USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 connections to easily transfer gigantic files of high-resolution video or other large data sets from storage devices to their PC. The ViewFinity S9 Series comes with a 4K SlimFit camera and supports native video conferencing through apps such as Google Meet that are included in the Samsung Smart Hub.

Smart Monitor M8: Bringing Productivity, Entertainment and Personal Life Together

    CES-Monitor-Lineup_PR_main4.jpg

The Smart Monitor M8 (Model Number: M80C) features stylish and slim design and now comes in a new 27” size in addition to the existing 32” size, both with 4K resolution. It comes in four color options that allow this monitor to fit in any room: Daylight Blue, Spring Green, Sunset Pink or Warm White.

The height-adjustable stand with tilt support gives users the best angle. The screen can now pivot 90 degrees, which helps users view long documents with less scrolling. It also meets VESA mount compatibility standards to help save space and retain a clutter-free environment.

The Smart Monitor M8 can connect, control and manage hundreds of compatible connected devices through the built-in SmartThings Hub, including lights, cameras, doorbells, locks, thermostats and more. Samsung plans to expand device choices and usability by supporting Matter functionality and Home Connectivity Alliance standards from this year onwards.

Mouse control functionality has been added to many of the Smart Monitor’s over-the-top apps, including SmartThings and the Smart Hub, for a new level of convenient control without a remote.

Users can use the Smart Monitor M8 to get instant access to Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube and other over-the-top services through Smart Hub. They can also easily access Samsung Gaming Hub, the all-in-one game streaming platform.

The new My Contents feature provides users with helpful information at a glance. When the monitor is on standby mode and detects a registered smartphone through low-power Bluetooth, it shows the user’s personalized photos, schedule and more on the screen. The monitor returns to standby mode when the phone moves out of range.

The integrated SlimFit camera in the Smart Monitor M8 has been upgraded with 2K resolution and works with video conferencing apps such as Google Meet.

In addition, the Smart Monitor M8 is also protected by Samsung Knox Vault, which encrypts personal data and keeps stored files and information isolated from the device’s main operating system to safeguard it from attacks.

  3. Samsung Art Store is a remarkable service for The Frame, the award-winning lifestyle TV that gives viewers new ways to enjoy artwork from the comfort of their home. The art subscription platform provides access to an expansive range of artworks, giving users the power to transform their living room into their own personal art gallery.

Hyun Kim has been working as an artist for 20 years since he made his debut as a children’s book illustrator. His most famous painting, “Gooly Gooly Friends,” is known for its adorable animals with vibrant colors and a sense of warmth. Inspired by his daily experiences, Kim’s work is playfully cheerful and appeals to both children and adults.

Samsung Newsroom met with Kim to talk about how his heartwarming artworks can turn our monotonous lives into sweet fairy tales.

    Art_Store_Hyun_Kim_main1F.jpg

▲ Illustrator Hyun Kim and his studio

Q: The collaboration with Samsung Art Store focused mainly on the cheerful and lovely characters from “Gooly Gooly Friends” and was hugely popular among users. What artworks are you displaying on the Art Store this time and why?

Most of the previous works displayed on the Art Store were simple and bright character pictures.

As a children’s book illustrator, I always try my best to portray the world as seen through the eyes of children. That’s why many have said my work brings back childhood memories.

I realized that people love not only a pure, delightful world like that of their childhood but also serene images that are equally impactful and aesthetic. Recently, I’ve expanded my process to include the perspective of adult audiences as well. I believe everyone has their own inner child, and I consider what world that little child would want to see when choosing an art subject.

I hope the joy of art can rejuvenate any family member, not only young children.

Q: What are the benefits of displaying art digitally on a screen?

Digital art allows audiences to access artwork anytime and anywhere. So, its biggest advantage lies in its flexibility. Users can select different pieces based on their emotions or to fulfill a certain purpose. That small change can also make their whole space completely different.

I think The Frame is the best screen for my work and other digital art as its incredible picture quality displays the detailed colors and captures the unique textures.

Q: With technological advances, the way we experience and consume artwork is changing. What is the role of the Art Store?

The Art Store helps users easily and comfortably access art in their daily lives while also providing an opportunity for lesser-known artists around the world to introduce their work to new audiences. In addition, the Art Store serves as a gallery at home where anyone can enjoy masterpieces from a variety of popular museums.

I hope that the Art Store will continue to expand this virtuous cycle where both artists and audiences can coexist and benefit.

Q: What three pieces of yours would you recommend for users to display through the Art Store?

    Art_Store_Hyun_Kim_main2.jpg

    ▲ Merry Christmas

“Merry Christmas” can be displayed alongside Christmas décor in one’s home to make it even more festive during December. I often display other artists’ works in my living room, but for December, I chose “Merry Christmas to refresh the overall atmosphere.

    Art_Store_Hyun_Kim_main3.jpg

    ▲ Redwoods

This past April, I went on a solo trip to Jeju Island. I spent so much time taking slow strolls in the forest. One day, I really felt the Forest of Healing comforting me with its profound silence, and I felt the incredible energy of nature.

“Redwoods” is the first artwork I drew after my trip. It always reminds me of that awe-inspiring and exciting moment.

    Art_Store_Hyun_Kim_main4.jpg

    ▲ Waiting Xmas

“Waiting Xmas” is a dark painting with more densely packed subjects. The style is different from my traditional artworks, which consist of vibrant, basic colors and adorable characters. “Waiting Xmas” shows the excitement of preparing for Christmas in a quiet winter with achromatic colors.

Q: What is your future goal as an artist?

Samsung Art Store enabled the global exhibition of my work. The other day, a person from the other side of the world said that my work gave them great comfort during a tough time. I have also heard that many kids see my work every day. How wonderful is that?

I am greatly looking forward to continuing to work with the Art Store to positively influence others through art.

  4. Samsung Electronics has equipped the new flagship attraction, “Chasseurs de Tornades” (Tornado Hunters), at the Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers, France, with innovative technology to bring an immersive and lifelike experience to guests. Samsung’s collaboration with Futuroscope Management and Development (FMD) helped bring the breathtaking attraction to life, making the signage installed by Samsung the largest 360-degree circular LED screen in Europe.

    France_Futuroscope_main1.jpg

The new attraction, Chasseurs de Tornades, is the result of four years of diligent work between the FMD team and Samsung, an industry leader in the global signage market for the past 13 consecutive years.1 The collaboration has produced a completely immersive audience experience through the use of cutting-edge audiovisual technology.

The concept behind the attraction is an exciting adventure where viewers confront nature’s most extreme elements, plunging them into an immersive whirlwind experience created by Samsung. Based on the story of Chasseurs de Tornades, visitors follow a team of researchers in their all-terrain vehicle in pursuit of tornadoes.

Sitting atop a dynamic rotating platform, guests come face-to-face with the intensity of a powerful tornado on the largest circular LED wall in Europe. The enormous LED wall from Samsung measures 17 meters in diameter by eight meters high with a total surface area of 420 square meters, making it the largest LED screen of this type in an amusement park that Samsung has installed in the world.

    France_Futuroscope_main2.jpg

▲ Behind the seats are removable LED walls, allowing actors to be able to perform in the open space.

Collectively, it is made up of 800 LED cabinets from the Samsung Indoor IFR series and offers 21K resolution for hyper realistic immersion. Thanks to HDR LED technology, scenes are optimized for high contrast to display detailed, lifelike images. The maximum peak light output is 2,400 nits, and the static contrast rate is 12,000:1, allowing for premium picture quality.

The attraction itself is a 120-seat dynamic motion theatre surrounded by the 360-degree LED screen. Four parts of the screen move down to let the audience come in and out, as well as see two live stage shows through the sliding doors. The flexible design properties of the IFR solution make it suitable for any location, perfectly aligning with the circular dimensions needed for this unique attraction. Additionally, the IFR solution provides double the power supply, giving the attraction greater reliability.

    France_Futuroscope_main3.jpg

▲ The view from the technical room, showing the attraction’s platform supported by three axes that help it lift, rotate 360⁰ and move in three different directions at the same time.

A highlight of the attraction is the removable LED walls where actors perform — a part of the attraction that Samsung was selected to outfit with an LED screen made up of 105 cabinets. To create a truly immersive experience for guests from the moment they enter the attraction, Samsung equipped the “pre-show” area with 20 LED cabinets to create an optical theater known as a “hologram.”

“The circular screen we installed at Futuroscope is the largest LED project we have completed,” said Jeremy Taghon, Head of CE B2B Division at Samsung Electronics France. “I am impressed by and thankful for the hard work and partnership between FMD and Samsung that brought this important technological milestone to life.”

“The contrast ratio, the image, the sharpness, it’s just incredible. An attraction like this is made to last at least 15 years, and LED is the only technology that’s durable enough,” said Yannis Marchet, Development and Projects Director at FMD. “When management agreed we could work with Samsung, everything went smoothly.”

The attraction earned several international awards in 2022, including “Best New Ride” at the European Star Awards and “Best Product Innovation” as well as “Best Dark Ride or Media-based Experience” at the ParkWorld Excellence Awards. Most recently, it won “Outstanding Achievement” from the Themed Entertainment Association, an accolade considered to be the prize for the best attraction in the world.

By installing the largest 360-degree circular LED signage in Europe, Samsung has enabled FMD to wow Futuroscope guests with a mesmerizing audiovisual experience unlike any other.

  7. Art is a reflection of a region’s history, providing valuable insights into the direction society is headed. This is especially true for National Gallery Singapore, which oversees the world’s largest public collection of modern Singapore and Southeast Asian art  acting as a “melting pot” of art from the region.

Samsung Art Store is an art subscription service that began in 2017 for The Frame, the company’s lifestyle TV. In partnership with more than 50 museums and galleries worldwide, the service provides more than 2,000 pieces of artwork, ranging from famous paintings to unique pieces from emerging artists. Through this service, users can access various works of art in 4K resolution from the comfort of their own homes.

Since April 2022, Samsung Art Store has been partnering with National Gallery Singapore to bring consumers a curated selection of prominent artworks by Singaporean and Southeast Asian artists. A leading visual arts institution, the Gallery is a custodian of over 8,000 works that form Singapore’s National Collection, which capture the changing landscape of this dynamic region.

Samsung Newsroom sat down with Jason Ong, Director, Partnership Development at National Gallery Singapore to discuss how the Gallery and its partnership with Samsung Art Store are redefining the role of art galleries and its role in fostering diversity and accessibility.

    Singapore-Art-Store_Interview_main1.jpg

    ▲ National Gallery Singapore

Q: National Gallery Singapore’s partnership with Samsung Art Store is fairly recent, having been announced in April 2022. Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this partnership?

National Gallery Singapore is committed to making our collection more accessible as well as to deepen the public’s engagement with our artworks. Collaboration with like-minded partners, such as Samsung, help us to achieve this goal. We are especially heartened to know that though this partnership, artworks from our collection can reach an international audience in the comforts of their home.

As the first Southeast Asian museum represented in the Art Store, our presence on the Art Store allows us to showcase some of our key artworks to a global audience; we hope that this will enhance awareness and appreciation of our region’s rich art history.

Through technology, visitors are able to have a glimpse of the diversity of art and narratives showcased through the selected artworks. We hope this partnership will ignite more interest not only for works from our collection but also for Singapore and Southeast Asian art in general.

Q: Can you tell us more about the Gallery’s goal to foster and inspire a creative and inclusive society? What does this look like?

The Gallery is working towards expanding the hearts, perspectives and horizons of the public through art. We have been steadfast in our ambition to deepen art appreciation in our audiences. Our desire to develop the Gallery as a space for dialogue and discovery also extends to the exhibitions we present. By sharing the magic of storytelling with all, our exhibitions and programs can add to, adapt or remake age-old tales. Our critically acclaimed exhibitions are curated to promote conversations and encourage fresh perspectives on the art of Singapore, Southeast Asia and the world.

Q: Samsung Art Store recently updated its selection from the Gallery’s diverse collections to include pieces from renowned artists such as You Khin, John Turnbull Thomson and Raden Saleh. How were these works chosen?

We display a unique transnational approach towards our collection as we aim to rewrite the art histories of this region. The works selected for Samsung  varying in medium, subject matter and social concerns  demonstrate the diversity of art from the region. You will find a wide range of works drawn from various countries in the region from the 19th to 20th century, varying in medium and artistic style.

Q: Which three would you recommend for users to display on The Frame?

Kampong Pasir Panjang was painted by Singaporean artist, Idris Ali, in 1965. Idris Ali’s paintings of Singapore are important as they serve as visual documentation of our national heritage. We hope that this painting provides an insight into the local landscape of early post-independence Singapore.

You Khin’s Untitled (Doha Scene: Pakistani Bakers) records the local Pakistani bakery that Cambodian artist, You Khin often visited with his children during his years in Doha and offers insights into how he passed the time in his adopted home. This painting also demonstrates how other regions of the world are interpreted in Southeast Asia’s modern art through artists who travelled widely like You Khin.

Boschbrand (Forest Fire) is one of the most iconic artworks of the Gallery represented in the Art Store since the inception of the partnership in April. While this piece isn’t one of the latest additions to the Art Store, it is a remarkable artwork with a dramatic representation of wild animals chased by flames to the edge of the precipice. The work was presented as a gift by Indonesian artist Raden Saleh to his patron King Willem III of the Netherlands in 1850. It is monumental in scale; we are glad that this masterpiece can be displayed and appreciated by The Frame owners from the comforts of their homes.

Q: You’ve worked on digital projects ranging from NFTs to the Web3 universe to make art more interactive and accessible. How do you foresee technology bridging the accessibility gap for consumers and artists in the coming years?

We must continue to harness this ability as we press towards the digital realm alongside everyone else. It is not enough to replicate the experience of visiting our galleries. Instead, visitors will have the opportunity to craft their own unique museum experience through modes of online engagement centered on interaction. Through video tutorials, games and livestreams, individuals can query artists; children can make art with their parents; and students can tour our exhibitions with their teachers.

As part of this initiative, the Gallery has recently created a private blockchain for “Adopt Now,” a public crowdfunding initiative that allows anyone to adopt part of an artwork from its art collection for as little as 50 Singapore Dollars. We are thrilled to report that this micro-giving initiative has received an encouraging response.

Q: Do you have any other upcoming exhibitions or projects you can tell us about? Do you have plans for any more digital art projects in the future?

As an innovative museum, National Gallery Singapore continues to innovate and explore emerging technologies to see what is possible in creating more opportunities for art appreciation among our visitors. To make art even more accessible, the Gallery launched ARText in September, an interactive platform that lets users learn about Southeast Asian art through daily conversations on common messaging apps.

ARText is built on the concept of micro-learning and delivers bite-size and interactive art learning experiences to mobile devices. The Gallery is also looking at personalizing the experience by integrating artificial intelligence text recognition software.

Samsung Electronics recently completed the installation of an upgraded display solution in the Swiss Life Arena, making it the most modern ice hockey arena in Switzerland. The display solution modernizes the space by providing revamped hardware and software as well as technical support for the ZSC Lions and includes the largest indoor LED cube in Europe. The upgrades were made possible by Samsung’s innovative technology and have enabled the Swiss Life Arena to meet National Hockey League (NHL) standards, a level typically only achieved by North American arenas.

▲ The LED cube installed at the Swiss Life Arena is the largest indoor LED cube in Europe.

As an official display technology partner of the Swiss Life Arena, Samsung outfitted the arena with a wide range of signage products and technical solutions to enhance the customer experience and improve operational efficiency.

“We are proud to present Samsung’s display technology after working with our AV Solution Partner Bild+Ton and the ZSC Lions to equip what is now the most modern ice hockey arena in Switzerland, delivering a world class fan experience,” said Daniel Périsset, Head of CE IT Team, Display and Memory at Samsung Electronics Switzerland. “The unparalleled quality of the solutions will help us deliver the best experiences in the rapidly evolving sports entertainment industry.”

Ground-Breaking Display Solutions To Wow Fans

Samsung installed 669 square meters of LED signage inside the arena, totalling over 18 million LEDs. From players on the side lines to fans in the stands, Samsung’s vibrant display technology allows everyone in the arena to be immersed in the action thanks to brilliant clarity and consistent color presentation. The advanced LED technology provides lifelike picture quality by optimizing brightness levels while eliminating shine and visual inconsistencies.

The central LED Cube display — which measures 12(w)x12(d)x8(h) meters — is the principal element of the fan experience with 416m² of the LED signages. Regardless of where fans sit in the arena’s 12,000 seats, they will be able to enjoy the stunning video display. Designed with premium picture quality and vibrant colors, the Cube will captivate audiences and set the mood using ambient light and sound. During the process of constructing the massive Cube, the teams collaborated to overcome the challenges of keeping the total weight as low as possible and managing the sheer scale of the installation.

    Swiss_Life_Arena_main3F.jpg

▲ The large LED cube and ribbon boards surrounding the entire arena present high-definition picture quality along with ambient lighting and sound.

“You need a reason for fans to come back to the stadium, and we can do so many things now to communicate during the game with the fans. It’s not only the Cube — it’s the screens; it’s the signage,” said Bruno Vollmer, Chief Operating Officer of the ZSC Lions. “The support from Samsung was amazing and we can be proud, all of us, for what we have done.”

To create a fluid and dynamic experience for guests, the Samsung displays include various ribbon boards — long and thin LED screens mounted on the face of balconies — and audio equipment. Thanks to the optimal visibility and low reflection technology of the ribbon boards, fans will not miss any action on or off the field — even in constantly changing lighting conditions.

The content management across all signage displays is supported by MagicINFO 9, the cloud-based solution for the most comprehensive signage offering 24/7 technical support. Managing on-screen content is made simple using Samsung’s powerful MagicINFO 9 solution, which supports content, device and data management across all the displays throughout the entire arena. MagicINFO 9 also allows users to manage content remotely and securely, meaning updates can be made quickly to reflect match details, advertising, or important customer information.

A Connected Experience Throughout The Arena

By delivering a complete display solution, Samsung has helped to enhance every moment of the audience experience at the arena, accompanying visitors from the minute they arrive until they depart. With an upgraded Players Club and a connected customer experience from the concourse to the Business Club, Sports Club and Press Room, fans can explore the arena while staying informed about the latest game updates.

    Swiss_Life_Arena_main4.jpg

▲ Signage and displays integrated throughout the arena by Samsung allow visitors to explore the venue while not missing out on any of the game action.

To ensure the technology was incorporated into every corner of the arena, Samsung installed 240 strategically located displays across the stadium. The crystal-clear picture quality of Samsung’s smart signage solutions, including the Q-series signage, are on display in the sports bar and around the concourse. Specifically, the ultra-high definition 4K resolution of the QMR series keeps audiences engaged in the action while enjoying food and beverages in the sports bar. In the auditorium, guests will be mesmerized by The Wall (IWA), a massive and awe-inspiring screen offering a vivid visual display. Furthermore, Samsung B2B monitors were selected for the ZSC Lions’ offices due to their high-resolution picture quality and productivity features.

Adrian Wangeler, Chief Executive Officer, Bild+Ton, shared, “Samsung always responds quickly and easily. Working directly with the manufacturer has the advantage of being able to fall back on the specialists and developers.”

As an industry leader in the global signage market for the past 13 consecutive years,1 Samsung stands out in the sports entertainment industries. Following Samsung’s visual display milestones equipping Citi Field and SoFi Stadium, fans can expect an extraordinary experience at Swiss Life Arena — powered by the latest innovations from Samsung.
