  1. It’s not the best time for a smartphone maker to raise prices, given the massive drop in sales lately, but vendors can’t necessarily afford to keep prices the same for another year. Samsung is in such a position with the Galaxy S23 series. Rumors say that every Galaxy S23 model will see price hikes in international markets, while US price tags will match those of the Galaxy S22. But a new leak reveals an amazing Galaxy S23 storage preorder deal that might offset that higher cost. Samsung might upgrade the storage for free with a preorder, which would be an amazing deal. Add the preorder reservation credit offer you can grab until February 1st, and you have plenty of reasons to purchase the Galaxy S23 phones as soon as preorders open. Roland Quandt posted the purported Galaxy S23 pricing for Spain, which indicates price hikes across the board for the S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra. The cheaper phones might cost €80 ($87) more than the S22 variants in the region. The Galaxy S23 Ultra might cost €30 ($33) more than its predecessor. Germany and Benelux it seems to be 949 for S23 base and 1399 for S23U base. No clue about S23+ for these countries. As usual, pricing depends on local taxes, duties etc. There will be some nice deals (like upgrade to next higher mem spec during pre-orders when buying base model) — Roland Quandt (@rquandt) January 24, 2023 If the information is accurate, the prices above will be virtually identical in the EU region. Quandt is back with a screenshot from one of Samsung’s UK web pages. Galaxy S23 preorder details are listed in the leaked document, revealing deals for businesses and regular customers. According to the leak, buying a Galaxy S23 during the preorder period will let consumers double their storage for free. You’ll pay the 128GB Galaxy S23 price for the 256GB. Even if that base price increases, the storage upgrade is still a great deal. Things are even better if you’re after the Galaxy S23 Plus or Ultra. Buying the 256GB version during the preorder period will get you the 512GB model. That’s an even better deal than doubling the 128GB Galaxy S23 storage tier to 256GB. And the Ultra deal will net you the biggest savings, considering the 512GB model comes with 12GB of RAM, as seen in the list above. Samsung has offered this sort of promo deal during other preorders, so it makes sense to see it return. If the free storage upgrade deal is happening in the UK, it’ll likely be available in plenty of other markets. The US market should get the same storage deal, even if prices stay the same. Straight from Samsung UK Business official site:#GalaxyS23 #Preorder #Discounts #StorageUpgrade #SamsungUnpackedhttps://t.co/cjaQ7CN1Fd pic.twitter.com/RTxoIz8Pex — Roland Quandt (@rquandt) January 25, 2023 It’s unclear, however, if Samsung will throw in other preorder perks that might make the Galaxy S23 purchase more interesting. You shouldn’t forget about the preorder registration deal, which nets you $50 in Samsung credit if you purchase a Galaxy S23 variant, on top of the preorder deals. You get $100 if you also preorder Samsung’s next-gen Windows laptop. If you’re wondering whether the Galaxy S23 preorder is worth it, the answer seems to be yes. Samsung reportedly pulled out all the stops on this year’s flagship following the Galaxy S22 issues last year. That means even better hardware in a great design. Should the real-life Galaxy S23 experience turn out to be disappointing, you can always return the handset and get your money back. 3. As usual with a new Galaxy S release, we already know everything about the Galaxy S23’s release date, design, specs, and price long before the February 1st launch event. But things got even crazier this year, as we also saw the first unofficial Galaxy S23 Ultra hands-on videos before the launch event. One of those clips reveals the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s significant camera specs upgrade. It also offers sample photos that show off the zoom experience. It turns out that Samsung didn’t upgrade just the primary camera on the Ultra. A new Galaxy S23 leak details the specs of the camera and the changes compared to the previous-gen Ultra model. Moreover, sample photos have leaked, indicating the phone could deliver exceptional photography performance, especially in low-lit environments. Samsung recently unveiled the 200-megapixel Isocell HP2 image sensor that targets flagship devices. We speculated at the time the sensor would power the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s primary camera. The specs leaks that followed and the Galaxy S23 Ultra hands-on video confirmed that Samsung is moving away from the 108-megapixel HM3 sensor on the S22 Ultra to the new HP2 camera. A new leak details the specs for the other cameras. The ultra-wide angle camera is a new Sony 12-megapixel IMX564 sensor that replaces the IMX563. And the selfie camera is a 12-megapixel sensor that replaces the 40-megapixel camera on the S22 Ultra. Remember, a higher megapixel count doesn’t guarantee a better camera experience. Finally, the 3x and 10x telephoto lenses on the back will pack the same IMX754 sensor. source https://t.co/gz0Uj96DjK — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) January 23, 2023 Even without a sensor upgrade, the zoom experience will improve, according to the first sample photos that made their way online. The photos above show a comparison with the Pixel 7 Pro’s selfie camera. This is a photo taken at dusk by S23 Ultra normal mode (12MP), but I can feel that the details of leaves are definitely better than S22Ultra, which is an absolute improvement , thanks to HP2. And you can also see low-light photo samples for the upcoming flagship. A clearer version pic.twitter.com/HqaHVGKH6C — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) January 19, 2023 That said, we’re still looking at sample photos from phones running software that might not be final. And opinions are subjective when judging smartphone photos. But expectations are high for Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series when it comes to the cameras. The only potential problem here is that buyers who do not want to pay for the Ultra model will not get the new 200-megapixel Samsung sensor, a key element of the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera performance. 4. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 launch event is coming on February 1st, but we don’t have to wait to see the Ultra flagship in a hands-on video. If the huge number of Galaxy S23 leaks wasn’t enough to help you decide whether or not to purchase one of the three S23 variants, we now have purported videos out in the wild of the most expensive option. Apparently, stores are already getting their Galaxy S23 supply in ahead of the February 1st launch event. Preorders will follow right after the press conference, and we expect the three Galaxy S23 handsets to hit stores a couple of weeks later. These stores have the balls to put these unreleased phones on display and share the pictures of those phones to the internet WITH the serial numbers uncensored. Just less than two weeks before the event. I’m getting more excited now. pic.twitter.com/s5WOHe85eF — Alvin (@sondesix) January 21, 2023 The Galaxy S23 Ultra hands-on videos below reportedly come from Nicaragua, where some stores shared Galaxy S23 content online well ahead of the phone’s launch: Galaxy S23 Ultra in Green. pic.twitter.com/OEMkAEaKiG — Alvin (@sondesix) January 21, 2023 One of the clips shows the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s full design. The new Note successor matches previous leaks, not that we expected surprises. We have a large display with curved bezels and flat top and bottom sides. On the back, there’s a massive camera with no fewer than four distinct lenses, including the brand-new 200-megapixel shooter. This isn’t a dummy unit, either. The Galaxy S23 Ultra in these clips appears to be a retail version. The person who posted the clips also shared a test of the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s zoom camera in action. Galaxy S23 Ultra. The store who has the phone is already making a few camera tests. This one is a zoom test. pic.twitter.com/Ei7jzaqQUj — Alvin (@sondesix) January 21, 2023 Moreover, other images seem to confirm some of the Galaxy S23 Ultra camera’s specs and features. The handset features a 200-megapixel sensor, according to the camera interface. That must be the new Isocell HP2 camera that Samsung just announced. And the camera supports 8K video recording at 30fps. This is the Galaxy S23 Ultra in all of its colours: Phantom Black, Green, Cream, and Lavender! pic.twitter.com/KO2wtHBU7n — Alvin (@sondesix) January 21, 2023 Separately, the Nicaraguan retail store that posted the hands-on videos also shared photos showing the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra. As you can see, the images confirm some of the colors Samsung will offer Galaxy S23 buyers at launch. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will get Green, Cream, Phantom Black, and Lavender options if this leak is accurate. Finally, Evan Blass posted online posters for the Galaxy S23 preorder event that seemingly corroborated the leaks from Nicaragua. Galaxy S23 series promotional materials shared by @evleaks. 5. Like the Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy S23 flagship family will deliver three devices featuring two distinct designs. The Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus will pack the “traditional” smartphone design, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature a built-in S Pen stylus. The Ultra will be the most expensive new Galaxy S phone and the Note successor that fans want to buy this year. And it so happens that the Galaxy S23 Ultra specs leaked in full ahead of the launch event. Buyers can already decide whether the Ultra is worth the extra cash or whether the base Galaxy S23 is a good enough upgrade. As usual with new Galaxy S launches, it’s WinFuture with the big Galaxy S23 Ultra specs list. The German-language blog also shared the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus specs. The information is likely accurate, as these leaks drop religiously every year ahead of Samsung’s new Galaxy S press event. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will be the largest of the three flagships. And it won’t feature the same design as the cheaper phones. The handset has an all-screen display that’s slightly curved around the edges. That’s a byproduct of Samsung’s desire to keep the Note experience alive. The built-in S Pen stylus demands that the bottom edge is flat rather than curved at the corners. That means the top edge is also flat, and the side edges are curved. Except for the Note design and features, the Galaxy S23 Ultra should feature the same base specs as the cheaper models. The camera setup will be much better, thanks to the inclusion of Samsung’s new 200-megapixel sensor and the periscope telephoto lens. Galaxy S23 Ultra marketing materials leaked ahead of launch. Image source: WinFuture The Ultra features a 6.8-inch hole-punch display with 3088 x 1440 resolution and a 1-120Hz dynamic refresh rate. The screen has a built-in fingerprint sensor and a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass panel. The custom Galaxy Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip that already leaked powers all three Galaxy S23 phones, including the Ultra. Like the cheaper phones, the new Note gets two big specs upgrades. We’re looking at LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage that deliver big speed improvements over the previous standards. Specifically, the Galaxy S23 Ultra specs leak says the phone ships with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Storage starts at 256GB and goes up to 1TB. The cheapest Ultra will likely come in an 8GB/256GB combination. The 12GB RAM models will probably feature more storage. The specs leak also details the big camera upgrade the Galaxy S23 Ultra gets this year. That’s the Isocell HP2 camera sensor that Samsung just announced. We’re looking at a 200-megapixel sensor (85°, f/1.7, 23mm, OIS) that should improve low-light photography and video recording. The Ultra also features a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens (120°, f/2.2, 13mm), 10-megapixel telephoto lens (36°, f/2.4, 69mm, OIS), and 10-megapixel telephoto lens (11°, f/4.9, 230mm, OIS, 10x optical zoom, 100x space zoom). On the front, expect a 12-megapixel shooter (80°, f/2.2, 25mm, HDR10+). Galaxy S23 Ultra marketing materials leaked ahead of launch. Image source: WinFuture Connectivity-wise, the Galaxy S23 Ultra should support 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C, NFC, and UWB. The Galaxy S23 Ultra leak also mentions the battery specs. We’re looking at a 5,000 mAh battery pack that supports 45W fast charging and 10W wireless charging. According to the leak, the handset should be available in black, cream, green, and purple. And if a recent report is accurate, the Galaxy S23 Ultra price will remain unchanged in the US. That means the handset will start at $1,199 in the States. WinFuture doesn’t mention prices for Germany or the EU, but rumors suggest Samsung might raise prices in international markets. 6. The Galaxy S23 launch event is almost upon us. But we won’t have to wait until February 1st to learn everything there is to know about Samsung’s new flagship series. We’re already looking at a massive number of leaks and rumors from trusted sources that provide plenty of information about the three handsets. Most recently, we saw the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus specs leak in great detail. It turns out the specs descriptions weren’t exhaustive. The Galaxy S23 phones will feature three big specs upgrades that should make Samsung’s flagship phones stand out from the crowd of 2023 Android flagships. But unless you’re a diehard enthusiast, you might overlook them with relative ease. That’s because we’re looking at the processor, RAM, and storage performance improvements that most buyers won’t care about. The Galaxy S23 series will feature only one System-on-Chip (SoC) this year, a significant change from previous models. But it’s not surprising, considering the Galaxy S22 performance issues that stained Samsung’s reputation last year. Benchmark leaks revealed in previous weeks that the phones would get an exclusive version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. But we had no official confirmation from Samsung. The Korean tech giant is yet to reveal the Galaxy S23’s SoC. However, 9to5Google discovered more evidence that indicates it’s a custom chip. Leaked Galaxy S23 Plus marketing image. Image source: WinFuture Apparently, the Galaxy S23 phones will run on “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy” SoCs. That’s the official name, one no buyer will ever care or use. Even if you’re a Galaxy S enthusiast. But if you care about chip specs, you will know the custom Snapdragon SoC will have a clock speed of 3.36GHz. That’s slightly faster than the regular Gen 2’s 3.2GHz top speed. The custom chip isn’t the only exciting Galaxy S23 spec upgrade that will improve the phone’s performance. Leaker Ice Universe revealed more details about storage and memory specs. We already know the phones will come with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM on board and 128GB to 512GB of storage. But it’s not just the amount of RAM and flash memory that matters. According to the leaker, the new phones get LPDDR5X RAM. That’s memory that runs at 8,533 Mbps or 33% faster than the LPDDR5 in other phones. Samsung Galaxy S23 series LPDDR5✘ LPDDR5X✔ click here:https://t.co/vzobMRR522 • $50 Samsung Credit when you pre-order one device • $100 Samsung Credit when you pre-order two devices — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) January 18, 2023 The storage speed is also notable, as the Galaxy S23 phones will move to USB 4.0 flash memory capable of 4,200 MB/s sequential read and 2,800 MB/s sequential write speeds. That’s double the read and almost 2.5 times the write speed of UFS 3.1 storage. These three components, the chip, RAM, and memory, could turn the Galaxy S23 into one of the fastest Android phones of the year. All the phones need is efficient software to take advantage of all that power under the hood. Even if you don’t care about any of the figures above, there’s one clear conclusion here. The Galaxy S23 could be a great flagship that could last several years without showing its age. But then again, we had great expectations about the Galaxy S22 handsets before they launched. 7. The Galaxy S23 launch event is two weeks away, but the rumors and leaks keep on coming. The latest one happens to be a massive leak that details the full specs of Samsung’s Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus handsets. These are next-gen Samsung flagships featuring the traditional Galaxy S design. They won’t ship with a built-in S Pen stylus like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which serves as a Note replacement. After the Galaxy S22 was a colossal disappointment, Samsung needs a big win with the Galaxy S23 series. Rumors say the Korean giant adopted a new strategy for the 2023 handsets, choosing not to cut costs. Instead, Samsung is said to be prioritizing a great flagship experience. But that might be a challenge, especially in 2023, as most financial analysts predict the economy will continue to move toward a recession. As a result, high-end smartphone sales might continue to take a hit, which could be a problem for Samsung. The detailed specs leak, courtesy of WinFuture, doesn’t mention prices for the new Galaxy S23 series. But it does say that Samsung will make the 256GB storage upgrade free for buyers who preorder the handset after launch. That means it’ll be the same price as the 128GB version for people who pre-order. Pricing aside, the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus should be identical when it comes to design and specs. The Plus will be slightly larger, featuring a 6.6-inch display and a 4,700 mAh battery. That also means the Plus model is heavier at 195 grams. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 reportedly rocks a 6.1-inch screen, a 3,900 mAh battery, and weighs 167 grams. Leaked Galaxy S23 marketing image. Image source: WinFuture The Galaxy S23 specs leak reveals that the handsets will feature Dynamic AMOLED screens with 2340 x 1080 resolution, 48-120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass on top. The screens also support HDR10+, Always-on functionality, and an under-display fingerprint sensor. The best detail from this report concerns the processor. The Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a 4nm processor that should be 40% faster than the chipset in the Galaxy S22. The phones will have 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and each will have two storage configurations in Germany/Europe. It’s unclear if other markets will have different storage options. In Germany, the Galaxy S23 will launch in 128GB and 256GB variants, while the Plus should be available with either 256GB or 512GB of storage. Aside from the minor camera bump redesign, the rear camera should not receive any significant upgrades compared to the S22 series. The primary camera has a 50-megapixel sensor (85°, f/1.8, 23mm, OIS, Dual Pixel). We then have a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens (120°, f/2.2, 13mm) and a 10-megapixel telephoto zoom camera (36°, f/2.4, 69mm, 3x optical zoom). The report notes the front camera should be a 12-megapixel shooter (80°, f/2.2, 25mm, HDR10+), although the sensor doesn’t seem to be confirmed. Leaked Galaxy S23 Plus marketing image. Image source: WinFuture Regarding connectivity, we’re looking at Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and USB-C. The Plus model will also get UWB support. The specs leak notes that the Galaxy S23 models will have slightly larger batteries. The Galaxy S23 will still support 25W charging speeds, while the Plus goes up to 45W. Wireless charging speed tops out at 10W, and both phones support reverse wireless charging. Finally, the leak mentions four color options: Black, cotton white, green, and purple. Considering WinFuture’s track record when reporting on unreleased Samsung flagships, these are probably the final Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus specs. But Samsung will confirm everything during the launch event on February 1st. The post Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus specs just leaked appeared first on BGR. View the full article
  8. Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S23 series on February 1st during its first press conference with an audience in three years. But Samsung fans who follow leaks already know almost everything about the design, specs, and features of the Galaxy S23 lineup. And it looks like Samsung is ready to reveal more details about the phones’ capabilities. The company just unveiled its newest Isocell HP2 chip, a 200-megapixel camera sensor targeting flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung doesn’t explicitly mention the Galaxy S23 Ultra in the press release, saying only that the new Isocell sensor is made for flagship smartphones. But Samsung talks up the chip’s improvements that concern low-light photography. And that’s the kind of upgrade that phones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra could benefit from. Samsung on Tuesday unveiled the Isocell HP2 chip for flagship smartphones. The company says the 200-megapixel sensor delivers “improved pixel technology and full-well capacity for stunning mobile images in tomorrow’s premium smartphones.” Samsung explains that the Isocell HP2 features 200 million 0.6μm pixels in a 1/1.3″ optical format. That’s the typical sensor size for 108-megapixel smartphone cameras. That means the Isocell HP2’s design means the phone won’t require a larger camera bump. The Isocell HP2 also comes with pixel-binning tech that Samsung calls Tetra2pixel. In low-light conditions, the sensor turns into a 1.2μm 50-megapixel or 2.4μm 12.5-megapixel camera. It does so by combining either 4 or 16 pixels into a single larger pixel. The sensor can also record 8K video at 33-megapixel using the 1.2μm 50-megapixel mode. Samsung doesn’t have to mention the Galaxy S23 Ultra at all in the Isocell HP2 announcement because these upgrades indicate the camera is heading to that type of phone. Galaxy S23 leak reveals official marketing images from Samsung. Image source: WinFuture Samsung has further detailed the Isocell HP2’s low-light performance, explaining the new Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology: In a photo diode within each pixel, a voltage transfer gate is placed on the bottom to transport electrons from the pixels to the logic layer. With high precision, D-VTG adds a second transfer gate in the pixel, boosting the pixel’s full-well capacity by more than 33 percent. With more electrons stored and efficient signal transfers, this method can reduce overexposure and enhance color reproduction, especially in bright light conditions. Furthermore, the new chip uses Super QPD focus for low-light photography. That means the sensor uses 200 million pixels to focus: The ample amount of focusing agents are grouped by four adjacent pixels to recognize both horizontal and vertical pattern changes that delivers faster and more accurate auto-focusing. Utilizing the rich pattern data along with the sheer number of reference points, the new sensor is capable of fast auto-focusing, even in a dimly lit environment. Finally, Samsung says the new chip will improve HDR performance in photos and videos. The Isocell HP2 sensor has entered mass production right on time for Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra launch. Speculation aside, Samsung hasn’t mentioned any Android flagship that might feature the new 200-megapixel sensor this year. 9. Samsung will host the first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2023 on February 1st, and that’s when we expect the Galaxy S23 series to make its debut. Of course, the new phone has already appeared online in the form of countless leaks, including an especially elaborate leak on Thursday featuring official marketing images from Samsung showcasing the Galaxy S23. The leak from WinFuture’s Roland Quandt confirms virtually everything that we thought we knew about the Galaxy S23’s design. These images are purported official shots from Samsung — they aren’t mockups or renders from an artist with an inside source. For now, WinFuture only has images of the base model Galaxy S23, not the Galaxy S23 Plus or Galaxy S23 Ultra. Those images reveal a device that looks strikingly similar to a Galaxy S22, with one significant change. Samsung has ditched the camera hump altogether after cycling through a few styles in recent years. Now, the camera lenses protrude directly out of the rear panel of every S23 model, as they did on the Galaxy S22 Ultra last year. The leak also spoils the four color options of the Galaxy S23: Mystic Lilac, Cotton Flower, Botanic Green, and Phantom Black. Based on Samsung’s previous launches, we expect to see additional colors for the S23 Ultra and potentially even more down the line. Color options for the base Galaxy S23 model. Image source: WinFuture Providing these are official marketing shots, they confirm the selfie camera will once again be positioned directly in the center of the display. The phone will be encased by a metal frame with a glass cover. The front and back of the phone are also completely flat. WinFuture didn’t reveal any new details about the phone’s specifications, but we expect the Galaxy S23 to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, a 6.1-inch Full HD display, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, a 3900 mAh battery, and Android 13. Samsung will formally unveil the Galaxy S23 on February 1st at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. The post Leaked Galaxy S23 images reveal new colors and new camera design appeared first on BGR. 10. Samsung finally consolidated its flagship smartphone lineup in 2021. With the discontinuation of the Galaxy Note line, all that remained were the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra. Last year, Samsung followed up the S21 series with the same three S22 models, and we expect to see the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra at Galaxy Unpacked in February. But according to a recent report, Samsung might axe the Galaxy S24 Plus next year. According to the South Korean tech news site The Elec, Samsung is considering decreasing the number of Galaxy S24 models from three to two. Samsung is reportedly using the codename DM for the Galaxy S24 series. There are supposedly only two models currently listed for this project: DM1 and DM3. Presumably, DM1 is the standard Galaxy S24, while DM3 is the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The disappearance of DM2 suggests Samsung might have canceled the Galaxy S24 Plus during the development process. There is one substantial problem with this report, as pointed out by WinFuture’s Roland Quandt on Twitter. The “DM” codename that Samsung is using stands for Diamond, and it actually applies to the Galaxy S23 series, not the Galaxy S24. The word “Diamond” even appears in a video URL on Samsung’s reservation site for the Galaxy S23. This article is just wrong. DM1/DM2/DM3 are "diamond" aka S23 series, not S24. There's plenty of proof they all exist. Stating S24+ isn't coming just bc you're not capable of finding "DM2" wherever you were looking is just bad research. Not a major story. https://t.co/UYxsDhmODe — Roland Quandt (@rquandt) January 11, 2023 With that in mind, unless Samsung plans to use the same codename for the Galaxy S24 series, it seems likely that The Elec simply made a mistake while putting together this report. On the other hand, perhaps The Elec is confident that Samsung will reuse the codename. All things considered, this wouldn’t be an especially surprising development. After all, the iPhone 14 Plus has struggled to find an audience after the iPhone 13 mini similarly underperformed. And while Apple only produces a limited number of smartphone models every year, Samsung pumps out a bunch of budget, midrange, and foldable phones in addition to its flagship lineup. Internal codenames aside, eliminating the Plus model might make sense. 11. Samsung confirmed earlier this week that the Galaxy S23 launch event is set to take place on February 1st. The company will host its first in-person launch event in three years, and it will be hosted in San Francisco. As is customary for Samsung flagship devices, the Korean giant has already launched preorder reservations for the upcoming new Galaxy S23 phones. That gives buyers a chance to score a significant discount on the upcoming smartphone, in addition to any other upcoming Galaxy S23 preorder deals. Buyers can now get up to $100 in credit when they turn their reservations into preorders. The Galaxy S23 reservation system works just like reservations for other Samsung flagships. You don’t have to commit to a purchase at this time. After all, the phone isn’t official yet, and you may not be impressed by Samsung’s Galaxy S23 specs. You only have to fill in the Galaxy S23 reservation form to be eligible for the Samsung credit that will come with Galaxy S23 preorders. You can reserve a phone starting right now on Samsung’s website. Preordering the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, or S23 Ultra is not enough to get the full $100 Samsung credit. You’ll also have to preorder one of Samsung’s new Galaxy Book laptops that are coming at the show. Reserve both, and you get $100 in Samsung credit. Otherwise, you’ll be eligible for a $50 Samsung Credit for preordering only one new product. Galaxy S23 Unpacked event set for February 1st. Image source: Samsung But $50 in free Samsung credit isn’t a bad deal when you factor in rumors claiming that the Galaxy S23 phones might be more expensive. That $50 can go towards the purchases of accessories for the phones, including cases, screen protectors, chargers, and earphones. The Galaxy S23 reservation deal also stacks up with any preorder deals that Samsung will offer during the preorder phase. Those deals should provide additional savings and make it even easier to justify an early Galaxy S23 purchase. Unfortunately, the Galaxy S23 price tiers have not leaked for the US at this time. A questionable report from Korea said a few days ago that all three models will cost more than their predecessors. That said, it’s likely the Galaxy S23 prices will leak long before Samsung announces them on February 1st. But the price points do not even matter when it comes to reservations. Again, you can reserve the Galaxy S23 without any strings attached. You won’t be forced to go forward with a purchase if you don’t want to. According to Samsung’s reservation page, buyers can reserve the Galaxy S23 and/or new Galaxy Book until February 1st. Preorders will likely start soon after the launch event. 12. Samsung confirmed this week that we’re less than a month away from the unveiling of the Galaxy S23 series. As usual, leaks have ruined most of the surprises, but even at this late stage, major details continue to trickle out. To that point, SamMobile on Tuesday shared a few interesting tidbits about new camera features that will debut on the Galaxy S23 next month. According to SamMobile, the biggest camera improvements will be exclusive to the Galaxy S23 Ultra. For example, their sources claim that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be able to shoot hyperlapse videos of the sky. It’s unclear how this will differ from the Hyperlapse camera mode that is already present on some Galaxy smartphones, but the mode might be getting an upgrade. Samsung also might add its astrophotography features to the default camera app, but if not, they should still be available through the Expert RAW app. The company has heard the pleas of users who want more control over their shooting parameters while taking pictures as well. The report suggests that a Pro mode is coming to the selfie cameras of the Galaxy S23 models, joining the Pro mode for the rear cameras. Finally, the report claims that Galaxy S23 users will be able to save RAW copies of photos in 50-megapixel resolution. Currently, Galaxy phones can only save RAW copies of photos shot in Pro mode in the default camera resolution, which is typically 12 megapixels, instead of the resolution of the camera sensor. This feature should be present on all three models. In case you missed it, promotional videos for the camera on the Galaxy S23 leaked on Tuesday as well. You can watch them courtesy of Twitter leaker Ice Universe below: pic.twitter.com/cvF9lDSGGP — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) January 10, 2023 In addition to announcing that the next Galaxy Unpacked will take place on Wednesday, February 1, at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, Samsung also opened reservations for the new phone on the company’s website. They are open until February 1st, so act fast if you want to reserve. The post Latest Galaxy S23 leak reveals intriguing new camera features appeared first on BGR. View the full article
  13. As leaks continue unabated, Samsung confirmed this week that its next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place on February 1 at 10 a.m. PST / 1 p.m. EST. Samsung will host the in-person event in San Francisco, where we will see the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra, and the new pair of Galaxy Buds. You can watch the Unpacked event live on YouTube or on Samsung’s website to get a first glimpse of the Galaxy S23. Countless leaks have already spoiled most of the new features coming to the Galaxy S23, as well as the design, which Samsung is obviously teasing on its invite. The three spotlights represent the triple rear camera array, which will be the focus of this generation. Unlike the previous generation, all three models should feature the embedded rear camera design that was exclusive to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It’s a much cleaner look, and it’s clear that Samsung heard the feedback from its fans loud and clear last year. Samsung’s reservation page for the Galaxy S23 is already live as well. If you reserve the Galaxy S23 today, you can get up to $100 in Samsung Credit. If you check out that page, you can watch a video highlighting one of the phone’s new camera features. Galaxy S23 specs and features leaked According to recent leaks, the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus will feature 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. All three should also use faster DDR5X RAM instead of DDR5. As for the colorways, display analyst Ross Young claims the Galaxy S23 will come in Beige, Black, Green, and Light Pink. There will also be Gray, Light Blue, Light Green, and Red options for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The post Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Unpacked event set for February 1st appeared first on BGR. 14. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 launch is a few weeks away, with more leaks indicating that the February 1st launch date is genuine. While we wait for Samsung to show off the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra, we have plenty of rumors to keep us entertained. Some of them are quite exciting, like reports saying that Galaxy S23 storage capacities will double this year. Memory details and color options have also leaked for the three new Galaxy S phones, so Samsung fans can already plan out their preorder purchases. A rumor a few days ago said that all Galaxy S23 variants would feature 256GB of storage. That’s a significant upgrade that buyers will certainly appreciate. And an upgrade that will put pressure on competitors. The move to 256GB might also help Samsung justify a price hike if there is one this year. This is the expected configuration. https://t.co/0hfBPno62H — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) January 9, 2023 The same leaker doubled down on these storage claims, returning with more details about the Galaxy S23 lineup’s memory and storage. A better-known Samsung leaker, Ice Universe, retweeted these specs and confirmed that these are the expected configurations. According to Ahmed Qwaider, the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus will feature 8GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The 8GB/256GB combo should be the most popular version. The leaker claims that some markets will get 128GB models. The more expensive Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Storage starts at 256GB and goes up to 1TB. But the most popular version will likely be the 12GB/256GB one. Qwaider also said that Samsung will use faster DDR5X RAM in the new phones instead of DDR5. That means the memory will be even faster, improving the phone’s overall performance. Finally seeing some new colors on the S23 Series, although much lower volume than the main 4 colors. The new colors on the S23 Ultra include Gray, Light Blue, Light Green and Red in addition to Beige, Black, Green and Light Pink. — Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) January 6, 2023 A different leaker that Ice Universe endorsed is Ross Young, a display analyst who is well-known for his accurate screen predictions. Young has apparently learned the color options for the Galaxy S23 phones. He claims the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have four new colors: Gray, Light Blue, Light Green, and Red. But it’ll also come in several familiar colors, including Beige, Black, Green, and Light Pink. Assuming all this information is accurate, prospective buyers can start planning their purchases. RAM, storage, and color options are always important when getting a new phone. Considering that most Galaxy S leaks from these sources turn out to be correct, the information above is likely accurate. We’ll still have to wait for Samsung to confirm everything, however. 15. Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S23 series on February 1st, if a recent leak is correct. A separate rumor claimed that Samsung still hadn’t finalized the Galaxy S23 price tiers, which might delay the phone’s release schedule. Samsung is supposedly sparing no expense on the Galaxy S23’s development. Add to that the inflation effects on manufacturing goods, and a Galaxy S23 price hike would not come as much of a surprise. A questionable leak from Korea claims that a price hike is in order for the new flagships. The Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra prices supposedly leaked for Samsung’s home market. Korea is often the source of price leaks for unreleased Samsung devices. Sometimes these are accurate; other times, they’re not. After all, these are just rumors, and Samsung can always adjust the pricing tiers to meet its needs. [Rumor] Galaxy S23 Series Price from Korea. Source from SKTelecom. S23 : 1,199,000won ($933) S23+ : 1,397,000won ($1096) S23 Ultra : 1,599,400won ($1253) pic.twitter.com/khjsGpbRPg — Connor / 코너 / コナー (@OreXda) January 5, 2023 The Galaxy S23 price information comes from a Twitter user who posted a screenshot that shows the purported costs. According to the screenshot, the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus will be 200,000 won ($158) more expensive than their predecessors. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will be 150,000 won ($119) more expensive than the S22 Ultra. Here are the prices, in won, from that screenshot. Sales tax is likely included: Galaxy S23 – 1,199,000 won ($948) Galaxy S23 Plus – 1,397,000 won ($1,105) Galaxy S23 Ultra – 1,599,400 won ($1,265) Assuming the information is accurate, we should expect similar price increases in every market where Samsung will sell the Galaxy S23 series. The screenshot in the tweet claims the information comes from an SK Telecom source. It also says that the Galaxy S23 Unpacked event will happen in early February, with preorders happening between February 7-16. Galaxy S22 Ultra colors. Image source: Samsung But this is all just unconfirmed chatter. It’s unclear where the screenshot comes from, and SamMobile says the leaker has been wrong before. That’s not to say that the Galaxy S23 can’t be more expensive than the Galaxy S22. Again, the current economy and Samsung’s new strategy for flagship phones can drive up costs. We’ll also remind you that the Galaxy S23 might start at 256GB of storage instead of 128GB. That’s an upgrade that Samsung might not offer free of charge, assuming the rumor is accurate. The problem with a price hike is that it’ll hurt Samsung’s marketing. Apple kept the iPhone 14 price unchanged from the iPhone 13 series (at least in the US). And the Galaxy S23 will compete against Apple’s iPhone 14 models at the worst possible time for Samsung. The economy is already hurting the tech giant. Price hike or not, Samsung will surely offer buyers who preorder the Galaxy S23 phones various perks that will make the phones seem more affordable. 17. Philips Hue, one of the most popular smart lighting platforms in the world, is launching a new app for the television that will allow you to adapt your lights to the content playing on your TV…for $130. As reported by Gizmodo, Signify, the parent company of Philips, has announced the Philips Hue Sync TV app, a new app that allows you to control your lights based on what is playing on your TV — with no TV hardware required. It’s a pretty cool prospect, as other TV lighting products require additional hardware that is hooked up directly to or needs to be around your television to achieve a sync between what’s playing on your television and the reaction of your smart lights. Philips Hue is attempting to remove the need for this additional hardware with its new app…which costs $130. That’s a high price to pay for a piece of software but, for those who want to invest in a minimalist home theater setup, it could be worth it. The company also notes that the app will only be available for select 2022 Samsung QLED televisions at launch. It will also only work with lights connected through the Philips Hue bridge. The Hue Sync TV app works with Samsung QLED TV models Q60 and higher that were manufactured in 2022 or later. Like the Hue Play, once configured, you can personalize which lights sync up with your TV, including the intensity of the syncing, brightness, and whether it’s a video you’re watching or a game you’re playing. The app supports content in various image formats, including 4K, 8K, and HDR 10+. Signify has not said if or when the app will be coming to other televisions, but it makes sense that it will as long as the televisions have the necessary hardware to support it. The Philips Hue Sync TV app will be available to download on compatible Samsung televisions beginning on Wednesday, January 5. The app will cost, remember this, a whopping $130. Still, for those who paid $250 for the company’s previous hardware box to accomplish this experience, it technically is almost half off for the same feature. 18. Today, Samsung unveiled its 2023 lineup of TVs with new MICRO LED panels and Neo QLED, OLED, and style TVs. They come will powerful performance, more customization, and more technologies than ever. “In 2023, we are pushing boundaries of innovation to offer consumers more than just premium picture quality, but a holistic, premium device experience tailored to what they need and want out of their connected home,” said Cheolgi Kim, EVP of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With SmartThings, our advanced technology is seamless and intuitive, making life more sustainable, accessible and enjoyable everyday.” For the latest Neo QLED TVs, Samsung adds Auto HDR Remastering. It uses AI deep learning technology to analyze and apply real-time HDR effects on SDR content scene-by-scene. In addition, SmartThings users don’t need to purchase a separate dongle to connect and control Zigbee & Thread devices. Image source: Samsung The 2023 MICRO LED lineup brings the most comprehensive range the company has ever introduced, with screens from 50 to 140 inches. A few years after Samsung unveiled its The Wall panel, the company is making MICRO LED more accessible to consumers, although these panels will cost way more than the higher-end Neo QLED 8K TV. For the second-generation OLED lineup, Samsung is expanding the size availability with 55, 65, and 77-inch models. Samsung’s latest OLED lineup comes with Quantum Dot technology that has been developed for Samsung’s Neo QLEDs and Neural Quantum Processors to retain OLED technology’s core strengths while simultaneously improving limitations in its brightness and color representation. The expanded lineup comes with a 144Hz refresh rate and all of Samsung’s smart features, including the Samsung Gaming Hub. And for the first time on an OLED TV, Samsung OLEDs come with AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro certification. Samsung is also updating its portfolio of lifestyle TVs and soundbars. 19. Last year, Apple introduced its first monitor in three years. The Studio Display has a 5K resolution on a 27-inch screen, excellent speakers, the A13 Bionic chip, and a 1080p webcam with Central Stage support. While the company didn’t add a better technology than the traditional LED display – or HDR support – this monitor is one of the best you can find if you’re looking for a 5K resolution at this size. Now, Samsung is launching not one but two competitors to the Apple Studio Display with the ViewFinity S9 and a revised version of its Smart Monitor M8, first released last year. With the ViewFinity S9 monitor, Samsung promises “smart color calibration designed for creative professionals.” With a 5K 27-inch screen, the South Korean company says the display is optimized for creative professionals “for the first time.” The monitor’s built-in Color Calibration Engine ensures precise screen color and brightness, allowing users to adjust white balance, Gamma and RGB color balance for perfect accuracy with their smartphones through the Samsung Smart Calibration application. The Matte Display limits light reflection and glare to minimize distractions while working. Different from the Studio Display, Samsung ViewFinity S9 doesn’t offer a built-in webcam. Still, users can connect cameras and other devices to the monitor through USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 ports or use the 4K SlimFit camera with the ViewFinity S9 series monitor. The company hasn’t announced the price or other specs but says it will be available soon. Samsung Smart Monitor M8 now comes in a 27-inch option. Image source: Samsung Another screen that can be a Studio Display replacement is Samsung Smart Monitor M8. Now in a new 27-inch size, it offers a 4k resolution in four color options that resemble the 24-inch iMac finishes. It has a height-adjustable stand with tilt support, and the screen can now pivot 90 degrees, which helps users view long documents with less scrolling. In addition, the Smart Monitor M8 can be used to watch streaming services or control the SmartThings ecosystem. Samsung has yet to reveal their prices and availability, but these monitors will surely be Apple Studio Display’s true competitor. 20. Samsung is the king of the foldable smartphone business right now because there’s really nobody else to challenge it. Most of the exciting Galaxy Z Fold competitors out there are restricted to China. And Apple isn’t making a foldable iPhone yet. But the lack of competition won’t stop Samsung’s innovating in the space. The new Flex Hybrid screen that folds and rolls/slides into a large 12.4-inch tablet is proof of that. Announced ahead of CES 2023, the Flex Hybrid display folds out just like the Galaxy Z Fold smartphones. The main screen sits inside, and the device becomes a 10.5-inch tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio. But this is where things get interesting. The right side of the Flex Hybrid screen slides or rolls to the right. The display diagonal extends all the way to 12.4 inches, as the device becomes a large tablet with a 16:10 aspect ratio display. Samsung Flex Hybrid display folds and slides. Image source: Samsung That said, the Flex Hybrid is just a concept for now. There’s no telling when Samsung will make a commercial device like the one in the image above. And we might not necessarily want such gadgets in our hands anytime soon. As exciting as these display innovations might be, the resulting device appears to be rather bulky and not that great looking. Moreover, with so many moving parts in play, the Flex Hybrid display is a drop away from permanent damage. Still, we need companies like Samsung to showcase what they can create right now. That’s the only way to advance the tech we need for the foldable devices of the future. Samsung Flex Slidable Duet display. Image source: Samsung The Flex Hybrid isn’t the only new Samsung screen at CES 2023 with a slidable section. Samsung showed a 17-inch slidable screen at Intel Innovation 2022, and the display will now appear at CES. Samsung has two concepts in place. The Flex Slidable Solo expands the screen in one direction. The Flex Slidable Duet lets you slide both sides into something larger. The screen measures 13- to 14-inch before you extend it. It becomes a 17.3-inch tablet/laptop when you slide out the sides. Like the Flex Hybrid, durability remains the primary concern with these slidable screens. And, again, there’s no telling if we’ll see them in commercial devices anytime soon. The post Samsung’s Flex Hybrid screen folds and slides into a 12.4-inch tablet appeared first on BGR. 21. If rumors are correct, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S23 series on February 1st. In such a scenario, official invites for the launch event should drop in the coming weeks. But we don’t need to wait for Samsung to announce its first 2023 flagships to learn everything about it. The Galaxy S23 leaks are more frequent, and the latest batch brings good news about the phone’s storage. It appears that Samsung will deliver a great upgrade with this year’s Galaxy S23 models. All phones, including the more affordable Galaxy S23, should feature at least 256GB of storage. That’s double what’s available from most Android handsets and the iPhone 14 series. Like battery life, storage is one of the key specs that buyers pay attention to. Each new flagship comes with a better camera system than the next, which can put pressure on the phone’s storage. Then there are high-quality streaming shows and movies you might download on your phone to watch offline. Add the more sophisticated games that can run on the new hardware, and the storage can clog up quickly. But storage on smartphones also costs extra. The point is that Samsung turning 256GB into the new entry-level storage tier for flagship phones like the Galaxy S23 is terrific news. It’s not just that Samsung would double the previous entry-level storage tier. Samsung would give buyers a significant upgrade when it comes to the phone’s price. And if the cheapest Galaxy S23 costs as much as the Galaxy S22, the 256GB storage bump would be free for the user. That’s assuming the rumor is accurate. As always, these reports can be wrong. But leaker Ahmed Qwaider thinks these are the RAM and storage specs for the Galaxy S23 series. ️Exclusively & officially Good news for Samsung fans It's amazing to be Galaxy S23 8Ram + 256G Galaxy S23+ 8Ram +256G Galaxy S23 Ultra 12R+256G+512G+1T Goodbye 128G I've been waiting for this move for a long time A very good move from Samsung thanks @technizoconcept pic.twitter.com/7EZbA6tyjK — Ahmed Qwaider (@AhmedQwaider888) January 1, 2023 The Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus will feature 8GB of RAM and 256GB of flash memory. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will be the only model of the three with 12GB of memory and additional storage options going up to 1TB. Even if you don’t plan on buying any of the three Galaxy S23 phones this year, Samsung’s big storage push will impact the industry. If the rumor is accurate, expect other competitors to do the same thing with their flagships. Apple might be one exception, as the company has moved slower when matching the storage available on Android. The iPhone 15 models might start at 128GB, especially the non-Pro ones. 22. Samsung will reportedly unveil the Galaxy S23 series on February 1st. As such, we should expect plenty of leaks as the launch event approaches. Samsung always struggles to keep its new smartphones secret, but the Galaxy S23 rumors are all the more interesting, as Samsung is looking to put the Galaxy S22 performance issues behind it. And a new Galaxy S23 leak tells us we should expect significant speed gains over its predecessor. All three S23 models will feature the same high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 System-on-Chip (SoC). There’s no Exynos 2300 to throttle this time. That should guarantee uniform performance across the board and across international markets. In previous years, the US models would get Snapdragon SoCs. International Galaxy S variants would run on Samsung’s Exynos chips. The Exynos 2200 turned out to be a big disappointment this year, leading to a big scandal. Users found that Samsung throttled the Galaxy S22 performance and the phone was cheating in benchmarks. Since 4nm is mentioned, it must be TSMC technology. It is impossible for Samsung's 4nm to run at such a high frequency. Therefore, the rumors of the previous Samsung 4nm have been smashed. https://t.co/U5xOuZxThx — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) December 28, 2022 Recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 benchmark indicated Qualcomm’s new chip will put up an even better fight against Apple’s A16 Bionic SoC that powers the iPhone 14 Pros. Moreover, the Galaxy S23 will get an exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 version. The chip is clocked slightly higher than the chips powering non-Samsung devices. But even so, the early benchmarks teased performance differences between the base model and the Galaxy S23 Ultra. As we explained before, the early benchmarks might show lower scores than the Galaxy S23 units that will hit stores running finalized software. A leaker provided actual figures that tease the massive performance gains of the Galaxy S23. ️Exclusive Incredible performance of @Snapdragon 8 Gen2 in #GalaxyS23Ultra S23+/S23 CPU 36% GPU 48% NPU 60% The 4nm processor with cooling systems will improve performance battery consumption&heat under heavy use In my opinion enjoy always have Snapdragon with Samsung pic.twitter.com/l5YYs29yjV — Ahmed Qwaider (@AhmedQwaider888) December 28, 2022 According to the tweet above, all three models will have a CPU that’s 36% faster than last year’s model. The GPU and NPU performance should see even more formidable gains, at 48% and 60%, respectively. It’s unclear where these percentage gains come from, however. The leaker indicates the Galaxy S23 will have a better cooling system than the S22, which should improve heat dissipation and reduce battery consumption. Reports this year speculated Samsung resorted to throttling the Exynos 2200 Galaxy S22 as the phone lacked a proper cooling system. Cooling remains a worry for the Galaxy S23 as well. 23. The Galaxy S23 launch is just a few weeks away, or plenty of time for Samsung’s remaining secrets to leak. Thanks to a series of renders and official press image leaks, we already know what the three phones will look like. More importantly, we know that all Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra models will feature the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. But more details have leaked about a few key features that potential Galaxy S23 buyers might care about: screen brightness, battery sizes, and cooling systems. The good news is that Samsung appears interested in bridging the gap between the more affordable models and the Ultra. Per Ice Universe, the Galaxy S23 and Plus will get the same peak screen brightness as the Ultra. That’s 1750 nits, matching the current Galaxy S22 Ultra screen performance. The base Galaxy S22 tops at 1300 nits of brightness. Because Ultra did not further improve the screen brightness, the regular upgrade of S23 and S23+ has caught up with S23 Ultra, 1750nit,which is a good psychological comfort for S23 and S23+, but it is boring for S23 Ultra users. https://t.co/m6a35FoTRb — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) December 26, 2022 Perhaps more important than screen brightness is battery life. And it looks like Samsung will increase the battery capacity of the smaller models. The Galaxy S23 and Plus models will feature an additional 200 mAh battery capacity compared to their predecessors. We’re looking at 3,900 mAh and 4,700 mAh batteries for the two phones. The Ultra will pack the same 5,000 mAh battery as its predecessor. When it comes to charging, the Galaxy S23 will support 25W chargers. The larger models will top at 45W like their predecessors. As we already saw with the S22 series, that’s not an exciting upgrade and is more of a marketing gimmick. OK https://t.co/L3IUCDS5fY — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) December 26, 2022 Finally, a different leaker provides another exciting detail, one that not all buyers might care about, however. The new phones should feature improved cooling systems compared to the Galaxy S22 series. This would ensure longer-lasting peak performance when using apps that demand more resources. The Galaxy S22 performance issues that came to light right after Samsung started shipping the phone were partly blamed on the lack of proper active cooling. Some claimed that Samsung cut costs on cooling, choosing to use software to throttle performance to avoid overheating and preserve battery life. Samsung has a different policy in place for this year’s flagships. Reports from Korea said the company would not cut costs this time. Around the same time, Ice Universe indicated that the Galaxy S23 phones would not feature a good cooling system. ️Officially and exclusively Galaxy S23/S23+/S23 Ultra will have improved cooling systems S23 improved over S22 1.6 S23+ improved over S22+ 2.8 S23 Ultra improved over S22 Ultra 2.3 Samsung has addressed this point significantly during heavy use #GalaxyS23Ultra #A_Q pic.twitter.com/bjSsaq4j7m — Ahmed Qwaider (@AhmedQwaider888) December 26, 2022 That said, we’re still only looking at leaks. Real-life testing and teardowns will provide evidence of the Galaxy S23’s performance and cooling. But we’ll have to wait for the phones to hit stores for that, which won’t happen before mid-to-late February. Cooling aside, if these rumors are accurate, it looks like Samsung is looking to bridge the feature/specs gap between the cheaper S23 models and the Ultra. And that’s something Galaxy S fans who do not want the Ultra will appreciate. The post Galaxy S23 battery and cooling details leak, teasing great news for cheaper models appeared first on BGR. 24. With December almost over, we’re heading into the final stretch ahead of Samsung’s big Galaxy S23 launch event. The Korean company will reportedly unveil the new phones on February 1st, so the Galaxy S23 leaks will only increase in frequency. We already have one such leak that signals the launch is near. It’s a set of Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Plus images that show two of the phone’s colors. There’s a lot of pressure on Samsung to deliver a great win with the Galaxy S23 after what happened with the S22 this year. Rumors have provided exciting details so far, indicating that Samsung doesn’t want to cut costs with its 2023 flagships. Moreover, we know that all three phones will feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. The chip should ensure consistent performance across markets. The best part about it is that it eliminates the Exynos chip from the Galaxy S series, which is terrific news for international users. Not only that, but the Galaxy S23 might feature an exclusive variant of the new chip. But, overall, the Galaxy S23 phones will look a lot like their predecessors. Samsung is recycling last year’s designs with a few minor tweaks. After plenty of renders that showed the purported Galaxy S23 models, we now have leaked marketing imagery for two of the three handsets. 91mobiles obtained the images below that focus on the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra models. Galaxy S23 official propaganda poster, it seems that a large-scale leak is coming soon. source:@91mobiles pic.twitter.com/iRKrOroCcR — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) December 25, 2022 The S23 Plus will be identical to the Galaxy S23, albeit slightly larger. We’re looking at all-screen designs for the Galaxy S23 series, similar to last year. The Galaxy S23 and Plus models have rounded corners, a hole-punch flat display, and a triple-lens camera on the back. Each rear-facing lens has its own protrusion. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has square corners, a byproduct of the design requirements related to the built-in S Pen stylus. That is, the top and bottom sides of the phone have to be flat, so the corners can’t curve. The S23 Ultra also has a more complex camera system on the back. Per 91mobiles, the colors in these leaked marketing materials might be the ones that Samsung will focus on most while promoting the phones. That’s a shade of pink for the Galaxy S23 Plus and green for the Ultra. You can expect additional colors for the Galaxy S23 series, with a leak indicating beige and black options for the handsets on top of pink and green. As always with leaks, there’s no way to guarantee these marketing images are the real deal. But considering we’re about a month away from the Galaxy S23’s launch event, it’s likely they’re real. After all, Galaxy S leaks usually turn out to be accurate. The post Galaxy S23 Ultra and Plus appear in leaked promo images appeared first on BGR. View the full article
  25. We’re less than two months away from the Galaxy S23 launch event, with a recent leak claiming Samsung will unveil the new Galaxy S23 series on February 1st. After this year’s Galaxy S22 performance issues that hurt the phone and Samsung’s reputation, there’s a new reason to be excited about the next-gen handsets. All Galaxy S23 models will run on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which is great news. Moreover, rumors a few weeks ago indicated that the Ultra might sport an exclusive variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, clocked higher than the chip versions that will be available to other Android vendors. A new leak indicates the base Galaxy S23 model will get the same exclusive System-on-Chip (SoC) variant. But the benchmarks aren’t nearly as good as the S23 Ultra, signaling a potential issue. Prominent Samsung leaker Ice Universe found evidence a few weeks ago that the Galaxy S23 series will feature an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC variant. Separately, other leaks for the chip powering the Vivo X90 Pro+ showed the new Qualcomm silicon will put up a great fight against the iPhone 14 Pro’s A16 Bionic. Fast-forward to December, and SamMobile discovered a new Geekbench listing that shows scores for the base model. The mid-November result indicated that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will clock at a top of 3.36GHz for the fastest chip core. Comparatively, the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip runs at a top speed of 3.19GHz. The new Galaxy S23 benchmark test reveals the same 3.36GH frequency for the fastest CPU core. Moreover, the GPU is also overclocked, running at 719MHz instead of the 680MHz speed the chip should get. Geekbench 5 benchmark scores: Unreleased Galaxy S23 Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs. iPhone 14 Pro Max A16 Bionic. Image source: Geekbench However, the Galaxy S23 running on this overclocked chip only scored 1188 and 3099 in single-core and multicore tests. That’s well below the 1504 and 4580 scores of the Ultra from mid-November. And it’s a surprise, considering that both devices feature the same overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. One explanation is that we’re looking at a Galaxy 23 variant running beta software. Benchmarks usually improve on commercial units. But there’s another scenario to consider. The base Galaxy S23 model might not have great cooling. In such a case, performance throttling is to be expected. That’s what happened with the Galaxy S22 this year, and the Exynos 2200 variants suffered greatly. Overclocking the chip but not improving the phone’s cooling wouldn’t be ideal. It’s also the kind of decision that will surface once people start taking the new handsets apart. Separately, Samsung has committed to not cutting costs on its 2023 flagships, which should include the Galaxy S23 series. But just as that report came along, Ice Universe warned that the Galaxy S23 might not feature cooling systems that work as well as other Android handsets. This is all speculation and conjecture at this point. We’re talking about early benchmarks for a flagship that won’t launch until February 1st. We should not lose sight of the fact that Samsung is doing the right thing by going for Snapdragon-only chips in the Galaxy S23 series. Or that it negotiated an exclusive variant of the new flagship SoC. And, hopefully, the Galaxy S23 won’t have the same performance issues as the Galaxy S22.
