Earlier this year, SmartThings announced a new program called Certification by Similarity (CbS) within our Works with Samsung SmartThings (WWST) partner program. This program is designed for Smart Home OEM’s to be able to certify portfolios of products, rather than certifying each product one by one.

Additionally, we released a new developer feature called Product Cloning, which allows partners to input the details of one product and copy for all the similar products.

Many of our device manufacturing partners have a portfolio of devices that have the same smart technology on the inside but come in many different shapes, colors, and other variations. We are making it easier and more cost efficient than ever to certify the entire portfolio.

After releasing this new certification option, we have heard excellent reviews from our partners. Read on to discover how to take advantage of this new offering.

“We love SmartThings' new Developer Center and used the Certification Console to quickly certify our entire portfolio of devices."

Antonin Carre, Product Manager Partnerships & Integrations for WiZ at Signify

Product Cloning

SmartThings Product Cloning allows you to enter information for one product and clone it to generate multiple entries for all similar products. The similar products include all the critical information — all you need to do is update the unique identifiers, like the Matter Product ID and Model Number.

  • Easily copy product details and enter whole product lines

  • Save time and get certified faster

Get Started

How to clone a product:

  1. Visit the SmartThings Certification Console.
  2. Navigate to the Products page (second icon from the top on the left).
  3. Enter your product details for one product and save it.
  4. Navigate back to the Products page. Under the Actions menu on the product, you have an option to create multiple products at once with Product Cloning.

WWST Certification by Similarity

Certification by Similarity (CbS) allows you to reduce your WWST certification time and cost by identifying related products with similar core functionality but with different model numbers and minor differences like colors, shapes, or regional variations.

Example Certification by Similarity use case with a portfolio of RGBW, RGB, and white balance light bulbs:

Start by submitting a primary product for certification that is a superset of all the portfolio features — such as one of the RGBW light bulbs. Once the primary product testing is complete, the similar devices — such as the RGB and white balance light bulbs — can get fast-tracked through certification, for free. Additional devices can be either submitted at the same time as the primary product or at a later date. All you need to do is submit the product information and link it with the primary product. We then verify that the features are the same as your primary product and grant you certification.

Devices that Can Be Considered for CbS

The following criteria must be met for the devices to be considered for CbS:

SmartThings-Certification-by-Similarity-

Note: Cloud Connected Devices may have different Device Profiles and still be considered for Certification by Similarity. This is possible only if the Capabilities for similar products are a subset of the primary product. If a similar device has additional Capabilities, partial testing is required.

How can we guarantee CbS will be approved before submitting for WWST certification?
→ We recommend following the guidelines in the Developer Documentation. The WWST team makes the final decision after reviewing your submission.

Should I submit the primary product and wait for it to be fully certified before submitting secondary devices to be considered for CbS, or can all of the products be submitted together?
→ When submitting products, you do not need to wait. You can submit the primary product and similar products at the same time.

I have multiple brands, including some that have the same hardware and firmware. Can CbS be extended to these multiple brands?
→ In order to be considered for CbS, products must contain the same brand. View our documentation to review the CbS program requirements.

How does the publication / timing work for CbS devices compared to the primary product?
→ See our Publish Your Device guide on publication/timing.

According to the latest data from International Data Corporation (IDC), Samsung captured 18.9% of the global gaming monitor market by revenue,1 reinforcing its leadership in high-performance gaming displays. Samsung also ranked first in the OLED gaming monitor segment for the third consecutive year, achieving a 26% market share.2
“As the No. 1 gaming monitor brand, our goal is to continue leading the market with differentiated innovation,” said Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Strong partnerships with game studios guide our innovation, while a clear technology roadmap keeps us focused. By expanding our gaming library and broadening platform compatibility, we’re delivering displays that perform when it matters most to gamers.”
“In gaming, the smallest difference makes all the difference,” said esports star Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok of T1. “Being No. 1 for seven consecutive years shows that so many of us choose Samsung for a reason. I’m excited to see what innovative gaming technologies Samsung will bring next to help us perform at our best.”
Samsung’s sustained leadership reflects its focus on next-generation gaming monitor technology and immersive gaming experiences. That momentum was recently on display at GDC 2026 in San Francisco, where Samsung showcased its latest Odyssey lineup, giving developers a firsthand look at glasses-free 3D and HDR10+ GAMING. The 2026 Odyssey lineup includes:
27-inch Odyssey 3D (G90XF model): Glasses-free 3D gaming with advanced eye-tracking that delivers natural-looking depth and makes action jump off the screen. Odyssey 3D Hub supports a growing library of compatible titles, including Hell is Us and Cronos: The New Dawn, with plans to support over 120 titles this year. 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SH model): Stunning 4K QD-OLED at 240Hz with exceptional color and contrast, protected by Samsung OLED Safeguard+ technology. 32-inch Odyssey G8 (G80HS model): The industry’s first 6K gaming monitor, delivering native 165Hz performance with Dual Mode support up to 330Hz in 3K. Samsung Electronics today announced that it has maintained its No. 1 position in the global commercial display market in 2025, marking 17 consecutive years at the top with a 35.2% share by unit sales, according to research firm Omdia.1
Since achieving the global No. 1 position in the commercial display market for the first time in 2009, Samsung has continuously strengthened its leadership in the B2B display sector. In 2025, the company reached an all‑time high in annual sales when it shipped more than 2.5 million units.
This sustained performance reflects Samsung’s focus on next-generation signage that combines advanced display hardware with cloud and AI-based solutions in retail, corporate, education and hospitality environments.
Samsung’s B2B display portfolio is built on its commitment to product innovation. Newly launched this year, Samsung Spatial Signage displays striking 3D content in a slim 52mm profile. It has already been recognized with a CES 2026 Innovation Award in the Enterprise Technology category and an iF Design Award 2026. Going forward, Samsung plans to expand the lineup to include additional sizes.
Samsung’s Color E‑Paper lineup delivers ultra‑low power signage as an alternative to traditional paper posters. The 13-inch Color E-Paper is the world’s first commercial display to apply a bio-resin derived from phytoplankton in its housing. The display’s housing consists of 45% recycled plastic and 10% phytoplankton-based bio-resin, allowing the manufacturing process to reduce carbon emissions by more than 40% compared to conventional petroleum-based plastic materials.2 Samsung plans to go expand the use of this material across its E‑Paper lineup.
The portfolio also features extra-large format displays designed for high-impact business environments — ranging from the 105-inch QPDX-5K, 115-inch QHFX models to the upcoming 130-inch Micro RGB signage (QPHX model).
Alongside hardware, Samsung expects to maintain its industry‑leading market position by connecting devices and solutions to provide customers with consistent, integrated experiences. This includes the Samsung VXT platform for remote device management and content operations as well as the new AI Studio app, which enables easy, signage‑ready video creation from a single product image.3
“Seventeen years at the top of the commercial display market is the result of listening to our B2B customers and evolving with them,” said Hyoung Jae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “As businesses change, they need technology that is reliable, simple to manage and ready for what’s next. We’ll continue investing in displays and solutions that help our partners work more efficiently and create better experiences in any space.”

Comparison is made against petroleum-based resin (PC+ABS) of the same weight. Carbon emissions calculation is based on the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data of resin production following ISO 14067, 14040 and 14044 standards, covering carbon emissions from cradle to gate (excluding downstream, use-phase and end-of-life emissions). SmartThings continues to invest in the Developer Center with tools for partners such as Test Suite, Product Cloning, and Certification by Similarity to simplify product integration and certification for a single product or an entire portfolio. After obtaining Works with SmartThings (WWST) certification, Analytics helps our partners gain valuable insights about how users interact with their products.
With the goal of making integration easy for partners, SmartThings added another tool in the integration process called the Device Profile Builder, allowing partners to specify a device’s capabilities and how it interacts within the SmartThings ecosystem.
“We’ve heard from developers that they wanted an easier way to build their devices with SmartThings. A tool with an intuitive user-friendly interface that would work for any device,” says Nate Porras, Senior Product Manager at SmartThings. “We feel like we accomplished that with Device Profile Builder.”
SmartThings currently offers Device Profile Builder for Cloud integrations and soon for Direct Connected and Mobile Connected integrations.

Read on to learn about Device Profile Builder and how to get started.
      Device Profile Builder
SmartThings Device Profile Builder is a web-based tool that assists developers with creating Device Profiles, which define a device and its features on the SmartThings platform through Capabilities. It contains the Components—which is a group of SmartThings Capabilities—and metadata (ID, name, ownership, and more) of a device, defining how a device on the SmartThings platform behaves. For example, with a light, the component contains four common Capabilities for lights including Switch, Switch Level, Color Control, and Color Temperature.
      Use Device Profile Builder to:
Define how you want your products to look to users in the SmartThings app
Set SmartThings Capabilities for each of your products
      Get Started
How to use the SmartThings Device Profile Builder:
Visit the Products section in the SmartThings Certification Console where you can add a new product or edit an existing one. Under Integration Details / Device Capabilities, click Create a profile here. Or here is the direct link to the Device Profile Builder. Click the button Add new Device Profile and enter a unique name. Add your Capabilities and Components. You can also use product category specific templates to make the process faster. Use the Dashboard View to set how you want your product's icon, action, and state to look in the SmartThings App. Click Create Profile. After creating, you will have options to View, Publish, Edit, Clone, Download File, Upload file, and Delete under the Actions menu. Publish your Device Profile and use it to finish creating your product. Then submit your product to obtain the Works with SmartThings (WWST) certification. You can re-use a device profile for similar products or create as many variations as you need for your portfolio of products.

Use Device Profile Builder when Creating a Product
Below is the Create Product section in the Certification Console.
In this section, you can provide the product details displayed to users across the SmartThings ecosystem.  Some of these include your product name, product image, and product description to help users identify your product. Plus you can add purchase link URLs so users can buy your product.
When creating a product in the Certification Console, you can use Device Profile Builder to add your device profiles. Under Integration Details / Device Capabilities, click Create a profile here or Edit an existing profile.
After finishing adding a product in the Certification Console, you can test it using Test Suite, and then go on to submit it for Works with SmartThings Certification (WWST).

Here are images from the Device Profile Builder. We’ll use the Capabilities for your devices as part of the Works with SmartThings certification.

      Templates
Get started faster with Templates. Templates are prebuilt sets of required and suggested Capabilities for common product types that help you create your device profile effortlessly. Simply select a product type and apply it to your component.

      Download / Upload File
For even more customization, you can use the Download / Upload File functions to modify the JSON file. If you have a more complex scenario you want to configure, this functionality gives visibility into all the fields. For example, this can be useful for certain devices that have specific preference thresholds or operating limits, which can be configured for normal or alarm states. There is also an ability for more granular control of what your device looks like in the SmartThings app.

Samsung Electronics today announced that approximately 80 models in its 2025 TV, monitor and soundbar lineups have received Product Carbon Reduction1 and Product Carbon Footprint2 certifications from TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized certification organization based in Germany. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the premium lineups, Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED, have received certifications, reinforcing the company’s continued efforts in carbon reduction.

“Samsung Electronics is committed to driving technological innovation for a sustainable future,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As the world’s leading TV manufacturer, we will continue to be at the forefront of establishing a more energy-efficient ecosystem that benefits consumers.”

Following last year’s certification of 60 models across the Neo QLED, OLED and Lifestyle TV categories, Samsung has further increased its number of certified products in 2025 to include QLED TVs. In addition, the company is also working towards obtaining certification for its Color E-Paper lineup later this year.

The certifications from TÜV Rheinland are awarded following a rigorous evaluation of a product’s entire lifecycle — including manufacturing, transportation, usage and disposal — based on internationally recognized sustainability standards. By assessing and verifying carbon emissions at each stage, these certifications highlight Samsung’s efforts to reduce environmental impact across its product lineup.

In particular, the Product Carbon Reduction certification is granted to products that have already received a Product Carbon Footprint certification and further demonstrate a measurable reduction in carbon emissions compared to their predecessors.

Samsung’s leadership in energy-efficient display technology dates back to 2021, when the Neo QLED became the first 4K and higher-resolution TV to earn the Reducing CO2 certification. Since then, Samsung has continually expanded its portfolio of environmentally certified products, including QLED, Crystal UHD, Lifestyle TVs, OLED TVs and a wide range of monitors and digital signage products.
